A call about a dog leads to two deputies being murdered and another city employee wounded. A small town in Central Texas.

RIP.

It is scary how quick a seemingly simple call can turn deadly for Cops.

About 160 miles northwest of Austin. Small town Texas, but one of the few smaller towns where I'd choose not to live. Roughly half of the total population is made up of inmates at the Eden Detention Center. It's a low security, privately run prison. Any bets that the murderer has seen the interior of it from the wrong side?

Prayers for the deputies' families. There were 264 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in 2020. Despite the pandemic and far fewer open businesses and people out and about, that's a 96% increase over 2019. Preliminary numbers show 97 KIA in 2021 through the start of May. That just changed to 99. These are the heroes who kit-up every day, tell their families they'll see them later, and put their lives at risk to protect and serve.

My hometown. Eden. Really, not a bad town. People there are usually friendly.
They'll have to hold trial in a distant county, as most there would gladly dispose of the miscreant for free.
