^^^^^^^ Yes, I wish the 'media' would do just a LITTLE research on this and STOP sensationalizing the event beyond what it already was.TVGuy wrote:The AvGas thing is silly to me. He had to know that shooting an aviation tank had virtually no chance to cause an explosion or a fire.philip964 wrote:https://www.reviewjournal.com/local/the ... urce-says/
A number of bullet holes in aviation fuel tanks at 2000 feet from shooter. I forgot how close all this is to the airport.
Had a gun safe. Mentioned a gun room. I think we are up to 43 guns now.
Reno neighbors said he was strange.
Had allergy problems. Wore gloves, girlfriend didn't wear makeup or perfume. Casino cleaned carpets for him with plain water.
The tanks were a long way away. Most recent reports are that a single round managed to penetrate one of the tanks (but no photos presented to support that). The type fuel would be displayed on the outside of the tank (JET A) almost certainly. Which is basically kerosene.
It is 'combustible' not 'flammable', meaning it has a flash point of 100° F or greater (the point at which it can even produce vapors). In order for there to be a fire, there would also need to be a certain level of oxygen present. The auto-ignition point for JET A is 410° F, so absent a flame...something would need to generate and transfer heat equal to that figure for the fuel to actually burn (the vapor that is).
So all of this talk about an 'Explosion' and how lucky everyone was....is just so much hyperbole being spewed by ignorant media personnel.
The conditions for even a fire did not exist, let alone an explosion. To my knowledge...no incendiary rounds were fired, so it just wasn't going to happen. (tanks explode or catch fire).

But I saw a movie one time where the good guy shot a bunch of fuel tankers with a .380 and the bad guys were all killed in the explosion.......flintknapper wrote:^^^^^^^ Yes, I wish the 'media' would do just a LITTLE research on this and STOP sensationalizing the event beyond what it already was.TVGuy wrote:The AvGas thing is silly to me. It's painfully obvious ISIS is now a more credible source than CBS.philip964 wrote:http://www.dailywire.com/news/21978/fak ... mpaign=ijr
CBS reports shooter used "automatic rounds".
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I just looked at a map. If he was spraying and praying with bump fire, it's easy to believe stray rounds ended up at the airport.philip964 wrote:A number of bullet holes in aviation fuel tanks at 2000 feet from shooter. I forgot how close all this is to the airport.

Re: Las Vegas Mandalay Bay Active Shooter
For me, the most significant aspect of this whole incident is his motivation, especially considering the time he invested in it. He went to a LOT of trouble to plan and set this up, over a long period of time. That tends to rule out "trigger" events. ISIS involvement seems unlikely; if he'd turned into an Islamic extremist of this degree, they would at least have found a Koran lying around. Another possibility is a psychiatric disorder, where over time he developed a delusional, paranoid personality resulting from some form of schizophrenia or possibly a brain tumor. Sometimes these behaviors do develop slowly, over time. I used to work in a mental hospital and have seen many, many patients who fit this pattern.

But if he'd had incendiary rounds... We really need to ban them. You do not need incendiary rounds for hunting deer. Or big clips either!flintknapper wrote:^^^^^^^ Yes, I wish the 'media' would do just a LITTLE research on this and STOP sensationalizing the event beyond what it already was.TVGuy wrote:The AvGas thing is silly to me. There is an interesting blog about a guys wife who developed a mental reaction to Cymbalta.
A Christian lady who wouldn't hurt a fly, developed a desire to kill all pedophiles after taking Cymbalta.
Apparently developed all kinds of well thought out plans to lure trap and kill pedophiles.
She was released from the mental hospital to her husbands care, as the hospital said she was so convincing in her mission that she was convincing other patients to take up her cause. So they no longer wanted to care for her.
Eventually after stopping the medication, she lost the desire to kill pedophiles.
So far this seems to be the only plausible explanation, until we get some real information, that to this point is slow coming.

What's the odds that future open air venues will A. be few and far between or B. Be very expensive because they have to hire a heavy security presence with at least one counter sniper inplace

How many of the new downtown baseball stadiums are surrounded by high rise buildings? Even the Kansas City Royals are looking for one.crazy2medic wrote:What's the odds that future open air venues will A. be few and far between or B.
