yes 2 dead, shooter at large, buildings being "cleared" one by one,

anti-gun nogunsoncampus type tweeters calling for no guns, pro-gun tweeters calling to be allowed to protect themselves

It started as a routine traffic stop ...officer got shot, then another person in nearby parking lot ...both deceased, shooter not found

#VirginiaTech officials (police dept chief) were off campus, in D.C. today to appeal a $55K penalty for university's response to '07 shooting: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/cri ... ingtonpost" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Jermaine Holmes, director of academic support services for student athletes, said the shooting appeared to be a traffic stop gone awry.

“It’s right across from our building in the parking lot,” he said. “It didn’t appear to be just a kind of random shooting.”

Holmes said the parking lot had been cordoned off with yellow police tape, and the area was thick with officers. He said he and his colleagues felt safe, and he was impressed by the swiftness of the campus alert system.
Well ... as long as they FEEL safe, that's all that matters, even though no shooter has been caught and he's roaming around or home watching the news on TV now .... :banghead:

If you have the 5.0 Radio app for your Iphone/Droid you can listen to some of the happenings @ Virginia/Montgomery County/ New River Valley Public Safety.

It is not the campus police feed, but does have a bunch of chatter about what is going on.

Black Sweatshirt/ Grey Sweatshirt/ Maroon Hat- Police are reporting he is heading towards Duncan in a grey mid size sedan. This is just radio chatter, so it could be any guy that happens be wearing that today...

I suggested they get more signs with bigger letters in more languages.

My brother explained the reason for gun free zones, it's so one redneck won't get mad and shoot another ... I asked how signs stop Mr. unlicensed redneck from doing that now .... he looked confused and I asked if a law prohibiting a 14 year old non-English speaking aliens from driving a car actually stopped any, he said they would have to steal a car, I asked how many criminals purchase and register their guns ... his wife was laughing, he gave up and left, realizing that the prohibitions don't "stop" a behavior if a criminal can't read ... or just choose to ignore a sign/law

Sounds like they are trying to clear a wooded area near the scene listening to the scanner feed.

vtnews Virginia Tech News
Law enforcement agencies have determined there is no longer an active threat or need to secure in place. Resume normal activities.

there is a RUMOR that the second victim was actually the shooter. Will be able to confirm or refute it shortly

If that was the case then wouldn't the gun in the hand of the second "victim" have possibly lead them to believe the threat was over? That would be a whole lot of lockdown for no reason. I had been supposing that the second victim had been carjacked and the suspect was long gone off campus before the first backup unit even arrived. It will be interesting to get the full story here soon.

I thought "institutes of higher learning" were only for the wise and learned, the sophisticated and urbane...remember, (according to certain people) rednecks only work on cars or construction sites or farms, live only in trailerparks and go fishing, hunting and to gunstores, country bars, feedstores and Wal-mart, and nowhere else, especially not one of them thar fancy places with book-learnin'...so why would they need those sorts of rules/laws for a college if rednecks aren't going to be there anyway?

Operant conditioning as a form of learning/training.

Even monkeys and chickens can be trained (learn) from repeated condition+response sequences.

Conclusion: Virginia Tech (and *some* other) educators and legislators have a learning disability.

Insanity: keeping the same conditions and expecting different results.
