Sure, in a perfect world we would need no weapons, but since there are already devices to kill and destroy out there it is just logical that we prepare ourselves to defend against such devices. Who knows how this story would have turned out had he not been prepared.

In Rwanda when there were no guns they used machetes. What do you do against a bunch of guys with machetes if you don't have a gun? You get chopped up. If all guns could be made to magically disappear overnight, it wouldn't make a better world, it would make a much worse one. All the predators would still be around and the rest of us would just be defenseless as they attacked in groups of two, three, five....with baseball bats, tire irons, or other home made weapons. Everyone would be vulnerable to whatever bigger brute confronted them. That's where the old phase came from that: "God made men, Sam Colt made them equal."

I say that not only are guns absolutely not evil, they are an absolute good. They changed the world from a place where predatory brute force reigned supreme, to one where individuals have a chance of defending themselves. Guns are why we have the civilization we do, and humans being what they are, getting rid of guns will ultimately end it (unless some better weapons replace them). When liberals fight to get rid of guns what they're really fighting for is a return to barbarism and the rule of the bully. And note, on a smaller scale, that is exactly what they have achieved wherever they are in charge of a public high school --rule of the bully.

Glad to hear that the good guys won again. Now close up that shop and re-locate to a better part of town.

If the Houston PD gives out "heroic citizen" medals like some departments, Mr. Castillo ought to get one for sure.

But I just KNOW there's some "progressive" out there wringing his hands in anguish, thinking that Mr. Castillo's use of a gun added to the violence - after all, if he'd been unarmed, there would only be two dead people (Castillo & wife) . . . but because he used a gun, there are THREE dead - all armed robbers, of course - but that's still an increase in the likely death toll by 50%!!!

Nope, bad guys do not bother with Jared, cause all the gems on display are FAKE, you know, the bad guys are smart and can't be duped.

I am pleasantly surprised to hear the news reporting the folks supporting Mr. Castillo's actions and even that the police consider him a hero. He and his family are in our prayers, he is still in critical condition.

It's also another excellent example of successfully "outdrawing a drawn gun" through quick thinking.

You either react and take action or you are at the mercy of bad guys, the outcome is not good. If your act and seize the opportunity your may level the fields and prevail. Damage could be expected when taking on 3 armed BGs.

Store robbers are dropping like flies in the East part of Houston.

http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?secti ... id=7851821" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This is near where Mr. Castillo defended himself, his wife and his store.

Sure glad we are not in (fill in State of your choice) as I assume there would already be an investigation into the rapidly endangered robbers.

This took place less than a mile from my home. Glad he got these thugs off the streets for good. I might stop by and thank him personally, maybe buy him a box or two of buckshot....and a beer.
