I wonder if the doc's malpractice insurance covers this type of procedure.n5wd wrote:And that settlement wasn't from all of the defendants - there's more to come out of this, and rightly so!mojo84 wrote:$1.6 million settlement. I guess clinching in NM doesn't warrant what the cops did after all.

How many wanna bet the physician winds up paying relatively more than did the city of Deming and the county (the $1.6 mil)?

I'm guessing that doctor is certainly hoping so. But, he's also in danger of loosing his license to practice medicine, I read in one of the different accounts of this travesty.WildBill wrote:I wonder if the doc's malpractice insurance covers this type of procedure.n5wd wrote:And that settlement wasn't from all of the defendants - there's more to come out of this, and rightly so!mojo84 wrote:$1.6 million settlement. Cops still on the job.
"Now, a year and half after the incident and six months after a settlement of $1.6 million in local taxpayer money was announced, New Mexico Watchdog has learned at least three police officers involved in the case are still on the job, while the status of three others remains a secret."

Great.....so a police officer can abuse a citizen most horrifically and the city can pay and they get to keep their jobs.

Some of them even get a new job with the FBI, even though they're getting a $52,000 a year pension for "disability."mamabearCali wrote:Great.....so a police officer can abuse a citizen most horrifically and the city can pay and they get to keep their jobs.

Wow...times have certainly changed...in 1974 unless you had years of previous experience, you had have either a Law degree or an Accounting degree to even be eligible to enter the FBI Academy. They did have an internship program at that time, where you could attend college in D.C., while working part-time in a general administrative function (filing and shuffling papers primarily) and they would pay part of the tuition and books and upon graduation you would be eligible to enter the Academy. Back then even if you had 10 years of LE experience and exemplary record, you still had to have at least a 4 year Bachelor's degree to be eligible. Surprised that he received a "lifetime" 100% disability at age 31 for an "injured leg" and broken ankle...it evidently wasn't a severe enough problem to keep the FBI from hiring him.VMI77 wrote:Some of them even get a new job with the FBI, even though they're getting a $52,000 a year pension for "disability."mamabearCali wrote:Great.....so a police officer can abuse a citizen most horrifically and the city can pay and they get to keep their jobs.

That's the way it was back in my day too, when the FBI was still a law enforcement agency.
