Bring it on. This herd should have been thinned out a long time ago.

That's been my worry as well. Something is bound to happen soon, especially if these freeway "take overs" keep happening.gigag04 wrote:I hope non of us have to defend ourselves against such an attack. The fabric of society couldn't take it.
I also note that in the vein of never let a crisis go to waste, Eric Holder has wasted no time latching onto the anti-"Stand Your Ground" bandwagon.

I'm thinking there is a strong and inverse relationship between retaliation attempts and the locality's respect for self-defense rights.
Sure there have been some relatively peaceful protests in Houston, but virtually no violence.

I am sure that those reacting to Z's acquittal will use all of the riots after the OJ acquittal as the basis for their violence.

They had about 80 marchers in downtown Houston. Very organized and no issues. And thats how it should be. Use your First Amendment rights in the manner it was meant.rp_photo wrote:I'm thinking there is a strong and inverse relationship between retaliation attempts and the locality's respect for self-defense rights.

Mostly no issues. The front page picture on the Chronicle yesterday showed a white lady at the courthouse getting shoved around by the activists. And the River Oaks demonstrations this weekend have me worried since there will also be a pro-Zimmerman group there to oppose the pro-Trayvon crowd. Hopefully they can all behave themselves.Cedar Park Dad wrote:They had about 80 marchers in downtown Houston. Very organized and no issues. And thats how it should be. Agreed. I saw the article as well. The marchers I saw were actually going north towards the Chase Building (towards I10 get on and UHD). Were there two sets of protesters?
River Oaks-that protest will be escort by about three thousand police to be sure. Thats where the important people live...

Why did they pick that neighborhood? The only reason I can think of is racial profiling by Quahell X.xb12s wrote:And the River Oaks demonstrations this weekend have me worried since there will also be a pro-Zimmerman group there to oppose the pro-Trayvon crowd. Yea, that is a bit of a double standard.anygunanywhere wrote:I am sure that those reacting to Z's acquittal will use all of the riots after the OJ acquittal as the basis for their violence.
OJ did get popped in the civil trial, probably just like Zimmerman will too. The difference, I think, is that OJ had more to loose in the civil trial. I'm sure Zimmerman is already functionally broke between the attorney fees and inability to get another job. Maybe there are book deals and media interview options, but I think he's being punished either way.

Florida actually has interesting statutes against civil suits in this instance (that Texas should look at implementing). They make it much more difficult when he's been found not guilty in a criminal proceding. If he were smart he'd already been in Canada by now but I don't think he's the sharpest tool in the shed.

Re: Apparently retaliation has begun
It's interesting insight into different US cultural norms that there are no "Justice for Alexian" attacks.
Re: Apparently retaliation has begun
A NYPD detective was undercover and present during the attack on Alexien Lien and never lifted a finger to help. A police officer was present and witnessed Joe Horn and never lifted a finger to help. Cops are not obligated to help you. It is not in their employment contract. The "protect" and serve stuff is just bull stuff. There is no "protect" obligation. If the cops do save your hide, it is voluntary and out of the goodness of their hearts. YOU are the only one obligated to protect you and what's yours. Young liberals that I speak to never seem to really grasp this concept. Only old liberals kinda understand it. At least the ones I've met and befriended.Cletus wrote:It's interesting insight into different US cultural norms that there are no "Justice for Alexian" attacks.
