Don't Deliver Pizza After Dark In Detroit!
Re: Don't Deliver Pizza After Dark In Detroit!
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.
Re: Don't Deliver Pizza After Dark In Detroit!
That's totally different. A restaurant has the option of locating in an area it chooses. A delivery company has every right to refuse to go into an unsafe area.Ameer wrote:If a restaurant did that now, they would be accused of racism.Katygunnut wrote:This policy isn't that unusual. I delivered pizza here for a month in San Antonio. Some of us are smart enough to car carry and say forget what the company thinks. I was willing to take "more dangerous" late night runs so that the younger or unarmed crowd didn't, but yeah, with the amount of money and chances of being robbed (several people had been who worked there or had worked there) being so high, I quit after a little over a month. Most of these companies will fire you if you defend yourself. LOL, their philosophy is "no one's life, not yours or a robber's is worth losing over $30". No, but my life and others are worth defending and it's better my life than someone potentially willing to take my life. Chances are if you get robbed and defend yourself working fast food / delivery you'll be fired and possibly sued by the company. It's sad. IMO, everyone who does that kind of work should have their CHL or at the very least car carry. Some people there knew that I carried because they'd guessed after I was proactive with them privately.

I think you're being generous. An individual store manager may care about employees, but the Corporations that own these chains don't. All they care about is the bottom line. They want you defenseless because they know that a dead employee is cheaper in the long run. Their policy is set so the family of the dead employee can't sue them successfully --the employee knew the policy when he took the job, etc--- by making self-defense against policy, and spouting the phony pretense of high minded concern about everyone's life, they're positioning themselves solely to head off the law suits that are likely to cost them the most money. So, if an employee defends himself, they can lay it off on the employee who violated policy; and if the employee is killed, they can again lay it off on the employee, who, after all, knew the risks.

Why not simply stop offering delivery - unless a pizza restaurant is completely dependent for it's survival on delivered pizza?
Plus, why don't folks move away from Detroit?
Yes, I've heard all the economic reasons for staying put, no matter the location, but I know from experience if a location isn't tolerable, you'll find a way to leave. I was faced with this type situation more than one time in my life and made it a priority to leave and did...

Spent a few yrs of my life in Detroit. As a kid, my house got shot twice for no reason...a night. Called cops, they show up next day at 3pm as I was getting home from school; guess they felt safer.

We had a pizza driver robbed at gun point just the other night in Austin. This happens everywhere.

My buddy got robbed at gunpoint while delivering pizzas in San Marcos... and that's even more rare than Austin. ![tiphat :tiphat:](./images/smilies/tiphat.gif)

If business's in general, not just pizza deliveries, but UPS, FEDEX etc. stopped making deliveries to areas deemed too dangerous, I would guess the powers that be might actually start doing something to address the criminal element.

The way ammo prices are going, maybe there should be a number 1 in front of the 20 on the sign. Wow Keith, you are quick!gringo pistolero wrote:

Detroit is just one of those places you don't go. Sad to see an american Icon go downhill, but that is what socialism does.
