According to Websters Dictionary, Cameras can not "protect" you.
They need more LIGHTS? Safety in numbers?
Those are not ... "the answer"

Anyway ...

Bernal said police advised the church to install surveillance video cameras, and the pastor said the congregation will take that advice.

Some, such as daughter-in-law Noemi, said they are beginning to feel safe again.
McClatchy Tribune

MONROE Noemi Bernal’s head was bowed in prayer when the masked man entered with a gun. He came in through the back door of Iglesia de Dios Nueva Vida church and put a shotgun in the hair of one the women who had come to worship on New Year’s Eve.

No one spoke.

“At first I was afraid,” said Bernal, speaking through a translator. “I thought I was going to get shot.”

One reason the wife and I carry in church. Our church women's group is sponsoring a ladies night at the range so it seems that on the surface the leadership is pro-protection.

Hey, the UK supposedly has more cameras monitoring the public, per capita, than any other country in the world and they're not only the most violent country in Europe, but about experience violence at about 4 times the rate of the violent old USA. So why wouldn't cameras make everyone feel all tingly and safe in the USA, where without major effort it's nearly impossible to get a realistic picture of the real world out of our propagandist media.

After you're dead, the police can identify the perpetrator, maybe...

In their one size fits all wisdom - that's quite good enough.

When a camera can tell a good guy from a bad guy, then jump down from its perch knocking the gun out of the bad guy's hand ... then I'll feel safer by using cameras for "protection" but I won't hold my breath fro that day for a camera to "protect" me.

Cameras have their uses, but they are limited to recording/reporting what occurred to people who survived and weren't there to witness it..... assuming they are working that day and adequate lighting and no bad guy wore a mask and ... oh wait, the bad guy in the story at the church wore a mask ...
