Woman hiding with kids in attic shoots home invader

#1

Post by daveboyd »

A woman hiding in her attic with children shot an intruder multiple times before fleeing to safety Friday.

This thug is lucky that she was only shooting a 38 revolver: "She's standing over him, and she realizes she's fired all six rounds. And the guy's telling her to quit shooting," :fire

Sheriff Chapman is quoted as saying the intruder was shot in the face and neck; that he was shot five times; that he has four exit wounds, and that he suffers from punctured lungs, a punctured liver, and a punctured stomach. :confused5

I would certainly agree with you about the .38, Dave. Perhaps I ought to reconsider the wife's Airweight, and it only has five rounds, not six. On the other hand, those five rounds are Hornady Critical Defense. Using them there might not be four exit wounds.

Despite having a Glock 26, my S&W 442 has been my EDC since 4/2011. It is so easy to carry that stays in my pocket during most waking hours. At present it's loaded with 125 grain +P Golden Sabers.

The Glock became my truck gun (with a 15 round magazine), but that will be the role of my new M&P 40.

As far as the potential effectiveness of .38 snubbies, consider Ruby and Oswald.

Chapman said Slater was shot in the face and neck.
Channel 2’s Amy Napier Viteri learned from Chapman late Friday night that slater has been placed on a ventilator and suffers from punctured lungs, a punctured liver and a punctured stomach.
He was shot in the face and neck, but he has puncture lungs, liver and stomach. :confused5
The woman then shot him five times, but he survived, Chapman said. He said the woman ran out of bullets but threatened to shoot the intruder if he moved.

"She's standing over him, and she realizes she's fired all six rounds. And the guy's telling her to quit shooting," Chapman said.
So, is it 5 or 6 rounds in the revolver? Now here is a good argument for the "high" capacity magazines. Some times you run out of bullets and the BG still needs a few more delivered.

Sounds to me like the BG was a walking (but still dangerous) ghost, as is often the case in defensive shootings.

Another lesson learned is keeping a speedloader or 2 near the weapon, as that might have made a crucial difference.

He said if Slater survives the night, doctors will try to operate in the morning to repair the damage.

Better yet, see if he can survive a few days out behind the hospital.

Glad her and the children are safe but I hope this will make her buy something full sized for home defense. No one ever says they wished they had less rounds when put into a situation like this.

Someone, in another (now locked) thread said they doubted the MSM will be covering something like this ... surprised to see Carol Costello on CNN this morning (8:20 am cst) led the package on this story with something like "another reason why people should continue to have access to firearms", or words to that effect.
