It is all part of the UK driven narrative that a person shouldn't be allowed to protect themselves. Nowhere does anyone blame the guy who committed the original break in. If you read the UK newspapers, they have exactly the same approach. He is just another poor, misunderstood (and violent) guy.
People seem to have forgotten that there was a revolution in 1776 and that the people in American don't want to live like their British ancestors. Unfortunately, the politicians and the press haven't gotten that memo.
Even if the law turns out to be on the side of the homeowners, neither the police nor the press have done anything to reassure others who might take similar action in the future. And that is, apparently, the real end game. The best that the police can do is to "de-escalate the situation" when the family of the BG confronts the homeowners on their own property? Isn't that similar to what started the initial situation? Pull-ese.
