Although it may have been the right thing to do morally and in the spirit of "Scout's honor", chasing after the perps was a tactical blunder. More than likely, sympathetic donors will replace the lost money many-fold, but that could never be done for a life.
And it would also be tempting to be a hero by drawing a weapon, which again would have been a tactical blunder once the threat was fleeing.

I talked to my sons den leader about this very thing a few months ago, basically he just shrugged his shoulders and stated the chances of it happening were remote!rp_photo wrote:http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas ... 379774.php

Many of the things I did as a child, seem hopelessly out of the question today.
Selling girl scout cookies and taking cash in front of a Walmart in the middle of a Saturday afternoon in Houston, is probably one that won't happen again.
A sad statement on life in general in America.
I suspect Walmart will probably re-access its policy of allowing such activities in front of its stores. As they ended up with another black eye just for being a good corporate citizen.
So if a parent was there and was a CHL. Being that it was the middle of the day. Could that person have legally drawn their weapon and/or fired to prevent the robbery?

Oh, I don't know about that... the Girl Scouts at our local WalMart had a couple of beefy male parental/grandparental units alongside them yesterday... one was open-carrying in a state that doesn't allow open-carry....philip964 wrote:Selling girl scout cookies and taking cash in front of a Walmart in the middle of a Saturday afternoon in Houston, is probably one that won't happen again.
he was an officer from an adjoining city - said he was hanging out with them before his evening shift.

1. Could they have drawn and fired? "Yes".philip964 wrote:Many of the things I did as a child, seem hopelessly out of the question today.

2. Could they have gotten away with it? "No".

I also disagree with number two. Old Gringo is never wrong but this time he might be.Thomas wrote:I disagree with no. 2, IANALOldgringo wrote:1. Could they have drawn and fired? Let us know how this works out when y'all shoot somebody in front of Wal-Mart at noon on payday Saturday for stealing your cookie money. Inquiring minds need to know.....03Lightningrocks wrote:I also disagree with number two. 3. IANAL, Ymmv?I have read threads on this very forum discussing the merits of shooting a bad guy to get your valuables back. I am not saying I think it is a good idea or bad idea, mind you. I am just saying I believe a person might be "legally" covered in a shooting in this situation.

I'm not sure shooting to retrieve the money would be a good idea, but there is no Grand Jury in the country that would claim you were anything but justified if you shot them for stealing the last box of Thin Mints. ![Mr. Green ](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)
