First CHL shooting in Wisconsin - UPDATE

#1

Post by JJVP »

MILWAUKEE -- It's the first known case of a concealed carry permit holder in Wisconsin shooting someone, and it happened in the middle of a Milwaukee grocery store, where a customer stopped two men from robbing the store by shooting one of them, Milwaukee police said.

Yup. I hope Aldi doesn't decide to do something stupid.

Police said at least one of them was waving a shotgun, despite the presence of two unarmed security guards.

Stop a robbery?

Meh....

More like "...stopped a criminal threatening his life with a shotgun."

Both criminals apprehended. Good deal.

Good for the citizens of Wisconsin.

I guess only the security guards read the sign.

The store has a sign when walking in stating, "Weapons of any kind are prohibited." But that in itself doesn't factor into whether the shooter would face any charges.

Looks like the Aldi store was posted with a "proper" (Wisconsin) sign prohibiting firearms. (see video at OP link). From what I read here and here, the GG shooter would be subject to a "Class B forfeiture" under WI law. According to THIS WI lawyer page, "Forfeitures are simply fines and the lowest classification of offense as far as seriousness."...

A class B Forfeiture would translate to a fine up to $200.
Very good news for the GG shooter and for the Good People of Wisconsin. :hurry: :tiphat:

WI criminals have been officially put on notice.

In my case, It looks like I would of been caught without my pistol, or NOT shopping at Aldi's at all.

Loved this line: "Police said at least one of them was waving a shotgun, despite the presence of two unarmed security guards."

Yeah UNARMED security guards are really going to stop someone with a shotgun.

When you know a sign is not going to be enough, an unarmed guard is the next best thing. "rlol"

Taking yourself out of Texas, and the Texas consequences of carrying where you are not "permitted".....

If I lived in WI, and the law treated violations of a gunbuster sign with a $200 fine and no loss of privileges, I would carry ALL THE TIME. If I got fined once every 4 years, it would still be cheaper than the cost of a Texas permit.

WI permit cost: $50
WI Training requirement: Hunter safety course, etc, etc, or a CCW issued from another state.

Am I missing something? :headscratch

If Texas law treated this violation like a speeding ticket (or less), would you be more inclined to test your luck?
Do you ALWAYS drive under the speed limit?
