No, guns aren't illegal in California. They just have a lot more strict laws on ownership and carry.

I know... was using hyperbole (and failed I guess. You can't hear my tone through type)

They should have put up a sign that made it a Gun Free Zone. That way this would never have happened.
Gun control is like stopping drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to drive.

Keith, of course, is technically correct. The actual worst thing about firearms laws in California isn't that they BAN guns because they don't. They just go out of their way to make it very difficult to purchase and use them, and place a lot of legal and administrative obstacles in the path of their state citizens. Personal example---I purchased a plain Remington 870 Express shotgun at a outdoors store when I was stationed there in the USAF. I did the paperwork up as I was instructed (including giving a copy of official orders showing I was assigned to a base there), paid for it, waited the required amount of days, and then went back and picked it up. A few days later my wife got a call from the store (which was about an hour away from where we lived) saying there was a problem with the STATE paperwork and we needed to return the shotgun. My wife said I wasn't home and that if they wanted it, they could come get it...and they DID. They did refund the money to my bank account. I don't remember the error in the form, and it was something the store did wrong (they later fixed company policy regarding the error and contacted me to tell me that), but it just goes to show how afraid of their state DOJ they were...and it was a CLERICAL type error, not any sort of false info or anything of that nature. I asked why they didn't just have me come in and redo the paperwork and they stated they weren't allowed to...It left me somewhat irritated, I'll tell you that. About a year later, I "retired" from the USAF and we moved back here to Texas. I've since been to Cabela's and bought another 870...and if it wasn't for the large number of people at the counter that day, I'd have probably been out the door with it in about 15 minutes...that's been several months, and so far, Cabela's hasn't called asking for it back!
