Based on the initial reports, it sounds like a domestic dispute gone horribly wrong. (Of course, the initial news reports from Norway were way off the mark, and the mainstream media has been scrambling furiously to conceal all evidence of their mistakes, so who knows what the real story will turn out to be.)

This is not a joke.

It's too bad there hadn't been a good guy there to stop him.

Anyone else holding their breath on whether he was a CHL holder? I'm highly doubting it. This is a Vietnamese family. I'm not an expert on Vietnamese cultures, but in other Asian cultures, guns are highly frowned upon. It would be a very interesting to see a racial breakdown of CHL holders.

It looks like the place was rented out for a private family event. While it's good to always be prepared, I can see how people might not want to carry at something like this. You all know each other. There can't be any psychopaths in *your* family, right? :)

"The father, identified as 35-year-old Tan Do, pulled out a weapon and began shooting at 7:10 p.m., witnesses told investigators. Police said it appeared he was targeting his estranged wife Trini Do, 29, and members of her family."

No mention as to whether Mr. Do was carrying his weapon legally. Possibly Chief Dye is not interested, what is important is what he did with his weapon, not whether he was licenced.

It looks like the husband was the only shooter. It might have been possible to stop him had there been a CHL or LEO there. I'm always carrying whenever we're at our local rink. No, I don't skate anymore.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

It would be really hard for me to shoot a family member. Even if it were my wife's family, I might hesitate to shoot into, or past a crowd of innocents.
I might have been able to stop him, but not before someone had already been hurt.
