Flower Mound, Lewisville - Burglar with time on his hands

The burglar even stopped long enough to enjoy some items.

"They had a bottle of wine out back and a cigar," Simmons said.

Two other stores in Parker Square were burglarized at about the same time.

The back story is that the FM police did not arrive until the next day.

Around the same timing, the Huffines dealership in Lewisville was burglarized with nearly the same MO. The 30 minute response time from the Lewisville department allowed the burglars to get away. The story ran on the TV news last night but I cannot find a link.

There are no suspects yet in either area Crime rates in both Lewisville and Flower Mound have been very low. It is the brazen nature of these criminals that stands out.

from within the confines of the ugliest police cars in Texas.

For those unfamilar with FMPD cruisers, they are mostly black, with unattractive white and blue stripes.

I'm surprised that Lewisville PD didn't respond more quickly to the Huffines break-in.
Lewisville PD, from what I've seen, has quick response times and professional officers.

Read number 14 on the requirements page linked to the FM police department "No excessive marijuana use" I wonder why they are willing to accept some marijuana use from applicants? Maybe someone was a little lacking in motivation to answer the call, perhaps they had the munchies, or needed to run to CVS for some eye drops?

How much is too much?

"Any excessive marijuana use, son?"
"No, sir! I never smoke more than three joints a day, or five in a 72-hour period, sir!"

And number 13 on that list is "no illegal drug use", so does that mean that using "non-excessive" amounts of pot is legal?

The information that I provided was not intended to malign either department. FM cannot respond to calls that are not placed and my guess is that either there were no alarm systems in any of the affected stores in Parker Square or the process of having the alarm company notify FM dispatch didn't work. From all of the stories that I've heard, FM response times are good from a measurements point of view.

I'm not sure what happened with Lewisville. I only heard the passing comment on the TV news and assumed it to be accurate.

My point on both situations is that neither of these towns has rampant crime problems but situations occurred where even an expected less than 5 minute police response was not part of the equation. When the burglar has time to smoke a cigar and drink a bottle of wine, he isn't too concerned about suddenly being knee deep in LEOs either.
