Sgt. Adam Henderson said police received a 911 call about 8 p.m. about a possible disturbance with gunshots on Hickory Street west of the Walmart.

Re: Frisco police investigate fatal shooting near new Walmar
Frisco has seen a surge of crime lately. It's up more than 28%. Walmarts are becoming a site of fairly frequent purse snatching with sometimes deadly outcomes. Be careful out there.

Yeah, Frisco is the fastest growing city in America. It only goes to reason that when you build more things to attract people and $$$$, that the bad guys who want those $$$$ will show up. It has been that way since the old west; bad guys moving into the gold towns to rob, steal and cheat others out of their money, or waiting on the stage coach or train to rob the rich folks or take the strong box.

Like out of "Six Degrees of Separation" I'm leery of W-Mart after my brother was robbed at gun point at a store; I know the victum.
The parking lot is too big, the merchandise is too cheap and the greeter guy at the door ought to be like Batman rather than Barney Fife and he ought to sit outside in a lifeguard's perch.

Any large 'box' store you got to, Target (appropriately named), Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's, and even malls are easy targets. These days being in an area with a lot of traffic and people is just as susceptible to robbery than an area where there is no one else around. These snatch and go or quick hit robbers find it easy to case an area where it is normal to see a car driving around the lot several times. I do it myself while waiting on the Mrs. to run in quickly for one item. And a car driving up and stopping while someone is loading their vehicle is also not uncommon as they may want your parking spot. For the robbers, they can act like they are waiting on a spot, all the while looking for an open window where no one is coming or going from the store, or wait for the lady to get a bag out of the cart and be busy placing it in the car while her purse is left sitting in the child seat of the cart. They grab it, jump back in the car and are out of the lot in less than 15 seconds.fulano wrote:Like out of "Six Degrees of Separation" I'm leery of W-Mart after my brother was robbed at gun point at a store; I know the victum.

This one may have been a drug deal gone bad. So if you are not buying your drugs in the Walmart parking lot you will have less reason to worry. The guy shot had several arrest on drug charges.
Gun control is like stopping drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to drive.

Frisco police arrested two men and charged them with murder this morning. Police confirmed that the killing was the result of a drug deal "gone bad."

This is not to say that Walmart parking lots are safe—they are all risky for reasons Keith stated. However, this incident illustrates how many violent crimes involve people who were already involved in illegal dealings and possibly gang activity.

The two arrested were 17 & 20 and the 17 year old is being charged with first degree murder. Another reason to show that teens are just as likely to kill you as someone who is older. Somethimes I think more likely as they seem to be quicker to act impulsively than smoeone who may be older and realize the total consequences of the act they are about to commit.

Re: Frisco police investigate fatal shooting near new Walmar
There's no question that "teens" are capable of violence. They don't consider the consequences of their actions. This is obvious with other behavior like reckless driving, drinking, drug abuse, and sex. Also before age 18 they may have been subjects of the juvenile justice system with its less-harsh punishments (often just probation and transfer to alternative school).
Young men who are inclined in a criminal direction are weeded out by being killed, severely injured, or imprisoned, so there literally are fewer men out of jail in each age group up to the mid-20s.

I do not believe that I have set foot on a WM parking lot unarmed since 1999. That is when I got my TX CHL.
It will be a cold day in a conjectured very warm place before I do again in a state that recognizes my license. So far that is a total of 37. Hopefully soon it will be more. and not by way of HR 822. Remember the "Law of Unintended Consequences".
