Staci Lisenby, the 46-year-old junior high school teacher in Orangefield was shot in the head at about 6 p.m. Sunday, February 20 in her home on Oilla Road. She died shortly after noon Monday at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth. Her 14 year old son was at home with her when the shooting occurred. He told police that a man shot her and then ran away.

Orangefield is about 10 miles East of where I live. Very sad, the only news that usually comes out of Orangefield is how thier football and basketball teams are doing. It is a very quiet bedroom community. Just shows that crime can rear it's ugly head anywhere. My prayers for the family and quick apprehension of the killer.

From the beginning I didn't believe that this was a random home invasion type shooting. It makes me wonder if her son was involved or maybe one of her students.

It appears that the son of the slain Orangefield teacher will be charged with shooting his mother. Sheriff Merritt stated that a 14-year-old is the suspect in a teacher's shooting. He said that he will ask the D.A. to file charges against the teen in the homicide of Staci Lisenby, 46, of Orangefield. The sheriff didn't name the suspect, but he said the only person in the home at the time of Lisenby's shooting on Sunday, was her son. Investigators said there was no evidence of an intruder, although they say the son told them an intruder shot his mother.

I wonder why they aren't naming names? Maybe because he is a minor?

The Sherrif's office is still tight lipped about the idenity of the suspect. AFIK they haven't made an arrest.

I haven't read any reports of an arrest. They haven't released a name, but have stated that the suspect is a 14 year old. They have also stated that there was no evidence of forced entry and that the son was only person in the house. I think that they are following protocol, because the suspect is a minor.

And they still didn't say his name.

Orange County sheriff's deputies aren't releasing the identity of the suspect because of his age. However, he has been booked into the juvenile detention center in nearby Beaumont and awaits arraignment later this week in Orange.

The 14 year old suspect now has a "high-profile" attorney - Wendell Odom Jr. who represented Andrea Yates after she drowned her five children.
