DC: Man attacked in subway by infants

#1

Post by seamusTX »

In Washington, D.C., Friday a passenger in a subway station was attacked by a boy estimated to be around 12 years old, then by an older girl, then by other minors.

Several adult witnesses played "see no evil, hear no evil, get on the next train."

No motive is known.

When I was in grade school, maybe sometime between 1965 and 1968, there was a group of feral children around age 10 that inhabited the alleys between 44th Place and 45th Street, Wallace Street, and Normal Avenue on the South Side of Chicago. They seemed to be the spawn of some incestuous extended family. They chased me a couple of times while I was riding my bike. They put a stick through the front spokes of another boy's bike and made him do a header.

We used to call them the evil munchkins.

I guess not much has changed.

Responsible Parents ... the anti-criminal.

I'm amazed at how people are unwilling to render assistance when it's clear that it's the right thing to do.

It's one thing to pass a guy with a flat tire on the side of the road. It's another thing entirely standing next to someone who's being assaulted and do nothing.

This lady would not have stood idly by... http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=108&t=41025" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

EDIT: Better quote.. Edited by me.. (original version: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came%E2%80%A6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )

They came first for the elderly,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't elderly.

Then they came for the immigrants,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't an immigrant.

Then they came for the weak,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't weak.

Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Thanks for this post, Jim.

As much as I question the value of hypothetical CC situations and inasmuch as it's too cold and rainy to go out, I'm gonna' pose a "what-if" situation here. Given the weather forecast, speedy answers are not necessary.

Let's pretend that these misbegotten juveniles attacked a duly licensed Texas CH licensee on a public transport medium in say Dallas, Houston, Tyler, Austin or somewhere else in Texas. Fearing further injury and perhaps death, our Texas CH licensee finally pulls his Glock and blasts the larger and apparent leader of this gang of gutter mini-rats. The other mini-rats start screaming, crying and run for their worthless lifes. What should be done with our Texas CHL hero in this scenario?

WWYD if it was you on the public transport being attacked by children?

Nothing should be done to the CHLer in that scenario. He/She was in fear for their life and acted accordingly. Just because they are kids do not mean that they cannot do damage.

All it takes is that one hit in that right spot (that right spot is different for everyone) and you can go down. Now all these kids are hitting and kicking you in the head. A lot of damage can be done.

If they do not want to deal with the consequences of their bad behavior they should think twice about said behavior.

I do think a lot of this crap stems from bad parenting. Too many parent want to be friends and not parents. They do not want to discipline their children. Then the children think that they can get away with anything. Its pathetic.

Very true, but unfortunately, if the victim in this situation even lays a hand on one of the kids there's a 99.9%chance they end up getting vilified by the media and possibly the law for actions against a minor. The younger they are the worse it would be. If this were me the problem would be convincing anyone that I was afraid of a group of 10-12 year olds.

I agree.

Should won't buy you a cup of coffee.

A healthy adult male who uses a firearm against unarmed infants (I used this word intentionally) is in for a lot of trouble. If there's a racial disparity ...

I don't know what the issue was with the victim in this case. Maybe he was disabled. I'm pretty sure I could still give an unarmed 12-year-old second thoughts about attacking me.

You're going to have a much easier time explaining, if you even have to explain, why you used a fist, pepper spray, or a cane against children.

The facts of this case are even worse than the story that I linked to earlier. Other passengers used their cell phones to make videos of the attack, did not help the victim, and later uploaded the videos to web sites.

There's a video here, but I can barely tell what is going on:

Since I DO ride public transit and am armed here is my take. Hunting packs are dangerous regardless of size or species. Watch any of the nature channels to see what a pack of smaller predators is capable of doing.

There are packs of youths trying to earn their street creds both male and female everywhere. Should they place me in a position where I felt a fear for my life I would defend myself. Evil comes in all ages and sizes, and I do not intend to see if they are capable of beating me down robbing me and upping their armament for their next escapade. Take the Alpha dog out of the mix and the followers will normally retreat. Rabid dogs get put down if if there is no way out.

I normally ride where there is only one direction to advance on me from. I have been challenged by singles.

Where's Fagin?
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

I agree.
It could be even worse for the good Samaritan who defends the victim from the gang, but that's the society the people in DC want for themselves, as evidenced by their gun laws, crackhead mayor, etc.
