Pearland bank robbery/hostage situation
Anybody close getting any better news on this? Last I've heard was the police and FBI are still negotiating wih the robbers, but that's what they've been saying for a couple hours now.
Maybe all the CHLForum members nearby are actually inside, trying to figure out how they're going to chamber that first blank one-handed while waving a CHL badge with the other hand.

Re: Pearland bank robbery/hostage situation
Fox link said it was over with no injuries other than the bank manager who was beaten to try and get him to open the safe. Both suspect in custody.
Police officer arrived within two minutes robbers were leaving when he arrived, fired at the officer, then both retreated into the bank again and took five hostages. Three employees were hidden in a closet the whole time.
No mention of any CHLForum members still attempting to put that first round in the chamber as the situation ended.
In addition to bank robbery and assault, these BG's added multiple kidnapping and attempted murder of a police officer to their resumes.

The CHL badge is easy, hung on a lanyard. The problem is the sash that keeps getting in the way!KD5NRH wrote:Anybody close getting any better news on this? Last I've heard was the police and FBI are still negotiating wih the robbers, but that's what they've been saying for a couple hours now.

Seriously: Given recent stories, is it correct to say that robbers are becoming more likely to use their firearms?philip964 wrote:Fox link said it was over with no injuries other than the bank manager who was beaten to try and get him to open the safe. Both suspect in custody.

(I hesitate to say that for sure because I haven't seen the numbers.)

Re: Pearland bank robbery/hostage situation
Glad all the hostages made it out alive!
Pearland police typically have a very quick response time compared to other local agencies. I'm not at all surprised an officer was on scene within in two minutes.
I recently attended of a couple of the Pearland Citizen Police Academy classes and I remember one of the high ranking officers state that it's been something like 17 years since they've had an officer involved shooting where someone was injured or killed. My compliments go out to all the law enforcement officers on scene for bringing this tragic ordeal to a peaceful ending.

Re: Pearland bank robbery/hostage situation
I was on my way to that walmart looking for toga materials when i ran into the hoopla. I figured that trying to get back out would just tie traffic up more, so I parked across the street and a good ways off and took some shots from behind the news cameras. Um, digicam shots.

It was pretty neat seeing the flashbang, and the PD go in and all that. The last suspect waltzing out doing a dance with a cigar was kinda funny. And the best part was that the PD managed to keep anyone else from getting hurt, everyone will go home tonight. Well, three of them will be going to their new home...

Yeah, but I think that's just cause most of us carry with one in the pipe anyway.philip964 wrote:No mention of any CHLForum members still attempting to put that first round in the chamber as the situation ended.

So what would you do in said situation?
Robber storms into branch shooting at cops.. Take cover and ride it out, hoping they don't herd the hostages into the vault and shoot them? Shoot?

Re: Pearland bank robbery/hostage situation
Things probably played out in the best possible scenario. Taking on THREE other guys in a gun battle would be EXTREMELY risky!!! The only thing I can imagine being any different would be if the bad guys were taking fire from inside the bank while on their way out, they might not have retreated back inside and there wouldn't have been a hostage situation. That's a split second decision one has to make for themselves and know they are changing the game….you just never know what's going to happen!TxSheepdog wrote:So what would you do in said situation?

The jewelry store owner who recently killed three bad guys was extremely lucky! The owner took a few rounds himself, but I understand he prevailed because he was able to get the first guy in a one on one situation and grabbed his shotgun for the remaining two.

Re: Pearland bank robbery/hostage situation
A CHL buddy of mine used to always say "6 rounds is all you need"
3 robbers, 4 home invaders etc
The hardware store/lumber yard I was in was robbed by 5 armed men.
I met a guy who was shot 6 times and nearly beat the shooter to death with the empty gun.
I know it's about placement, not "magic bullets"
I know how hands shake uncontrollably with adrenaline.
I carry a BUG with 6 in it, for that period of time while my 20 capacity primary's fuel gauge is on Empty and needs a refill.
In that bank situation ... I'd HOPE to get behind marble counters, or any cover I found, or in a closet and hunker down until I was either discovered or it was safe to come out.... but, you never really know what you'll do until you assess the situation you are in.

Re: Pearland bank robbery/hostage situation
I carry 22 rounds for my 1911, but I wouldn't want to roll the dice trying to engage 3 BG's in a closed space like that. I was under the impression that there was only 1 BG holed up inside and the other 2 ran. Will have to re read everything.

I think you are correct. If I recall the stories correctly, the first guy ran when the officers first showed up and the second guy gave himself up a short time later. That would have made the situation inside the bank a one-on-one shooting scenario. However, we don't know what things were like inside the bank. Maybe engaging the bad guy would have only made things worse.

Re: Pearland bank robbery/hostage situation
I looked at ALL the video links listed above, and it took quite a bit of time. I did NOT see a video that was shown on my local news last night (Corpus).
A number of the above video links show the lady in black pants and striped shirt leaving the bank with her hands up. Crossed a wide paved area, about ten feet of grass, then back onto a second paved area.
Last night I saw a man leave the bank the same way, hands up, crossing the same three areas listed above. When he reached some police, instead of asking him to lay down, one of the police took him to the pavement very roughly. I can think of no reason this was done in the way it was. Yes, these guys have to protect themselves, but this guy came about 100 feet towards them, hands up, wearing a tee shirt and pants, which would be difficult to conceal a firearm. I understand the police need to search everyone leaving the bank area as a 'bad guy' could try to disguise himself and escape in this manner. I saw no real need to take him roughly to the pavement the way was.

If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.
