Arlington officer shot and killed

An Arlington officer was shot and killed today along with two other people after responding to a domestic disturbance call. Very few details are known at this time including the name of the slain officer.

To all the active LEO both here on the forum and across the nation, you are in our prayers constantly. Domestic disturbance calls are one of the worst calls an officer can respond to and often lead to violent outcomes. Make sure to always wear your vest and be on high alert. We need you alive.

Domestics can be the WORST. I would bet that he heard something which made him go in without his backup. Probably one of the "DD'ers" shooting the other. The only "good" thing I see is that one of the Other two is most likely the one that shot the officer and the officer put that one down.

Considering my daughter is an APD cop and that's her beat, I was TERRIFIED when I first heard this news, and I couldn't reach my daughter's phone. My ex-wife called a short while later and told me that she had heard from her and that she wasn't involved. What's bothersome is that I know some of her friends that also work that beat, and I still have no clue what has happened, just like the rest of you.

My daughter has told me several times that calls for backup at APD are often unanswered due to significant understaffing. I hope to God that this wasn't one of those cases.

I just read about this on the wfaa website this morning. Very tragic. Apparently she had responded to the call to take information as the boyfriend/husband or whatever was already gone. The story said he returned and opened fire. Argh! So tragic.

This is sadly the trend across the country right now, with budget cuts in the coming years I bet this gets worse and worse. All the more reason I carry CHL. I can not count on a fast police response if my life is ever in danger.

For the officer, my heart goes out to her family and fellow officers. As a Police Dispatcher of 8 years, I also want to pray for the dispatcher who sent this officer to the call. All to often dispatchers are not thought of during these calls.

I do not believe this reports numbers, include the Harker Heights officer killed last week (motorcycle accident) nor this incident.

Police Officer Jillian Smith was shot and killed after responding
to an apartment for a report of a domestic dispute.

Officer Smith responded to a call of a domestic dispute
between a husband and wife. When she arrived, the husband
had already left the apartment. Officer Smith was inside the
apartment taking a report from the female victim when her
husband returned and shot and killed both Officer Smith and
his wife. The suspect then shot and killed himself.

Officer Smith had served with the Arlington Police Department
for 10 months and had finished her field training 15 days prior to
her murder.

Two more women killed by an abusive man. I can tell you now that if any of my girls were to be abused, they would not need the legal system to put a stop to it. The man would get one warning from me. The next time I'd be going to jail, but he would not be abusing anyone any more. There is nothing on earth that I despise more than a man who abuses women.

Having grown up in it personally, I have an inordinate hatred for any "man" who picks up his hands to a woman. They are nothing more than a coward, and that's all I can say on this board. If I am in a situation where I see a "man" picking up his hands to any woman in my life, it is game over for him. No warnings...because ANY "man" who picks up his hands to a woman in an abusive manner needs to be exterminated like the vermin they are. You want to bow up and act like a tough guy, do it to me. I'll show you what it's like to be on the receiving end...

May God Bless Officer Jillian Smith, her family and loved ones. Jillian is a Hero, she chose to protect the child in harms way and sacrifice her life in doing so. There is a special place in Heaven for Her.
