Obviously these bandits have fast boats that can run with a jetski. All they have to do is head for the Mexican shore and they're home free.
Thanks-That makes sense. Now my question is why get into a body of water that borders Mexico. Sounds like it's too dangerous to drink or swim in.

Fishing tournaments there ... BIG fish, STATE Park place to camp and picnic with family for vacation.

The pirates were probably hoping to steal faster jetskis than they had so the"Mules" carrying the drugs could carry more in their backpacks faster, making more trips to the USA quicker.

My thoughts exactly whan I read the original post. If they were interested in just wanton killing they could've done it from a distance. I think the oblect is to get close, make the kill ; then BG's jump on jet ski's and get across to the Mexico side ASAP.

From the May 30 article:
Last week, Border Patrol agents tried to follow a Mexican boat filled with men wearing ski masks, but it was too fast for the agents and entered Mexican waters, where U.S. law enforcement is forbidden.
Whatever they've got is already faster than what our Border Patrol is using.

They aren't faster than M8 (.50 API - Armor Piercing incendiary)

And how can there be pirates in a lake? I thought the whole thing about being a pirate was that you steal and kill where there is no law enforcement and a really big area to escape and hide (the ocean). How does a person or group consistently kill and rob in an area that is small enough to be patrolled. Maybe I'm not aware of the size of this lake, but can these folks kill, rob, and then sail their boat around in an area that's large enough to hide from law enforcement? You would think that they would have to dock their boat and re-begin fresh each day.

Can there be lake pirates?

I don't know what a Jet Ski costs, but I'm guessing $4,000 or so. Seems like a stolen one might be worth a few hundred.

This has been all over the local news. Unfortunately for me, I live in McAllen so Falcon Lake is very close to home. This is of course a tragedy but I do not understand why people keep tempting fate like this. Yesterday, my wife called and asked if I knew anything about what was going on at one of the border crossings because her brother and sister-in-law were trapped in Mexico. The bridge was shut down because of some shootout on the Mexico side. I asked what her brother and sister-in-law were doing in Mexico, "Shopping"! I'm sorry, but that is just plain stupid right now. We hear about shootings and even grenades going off just a couple of miles into Mexico EVERY DAY yet Americans continue to travel accross the border for reasons like shopping.

As for the McAllen man shot at the lake, last I read, his body still hasn't been found. I hope they find him soon so his loved ones can get some closure.

It's a good chance bandito is their second job for extra income and their official job is Mexican government.

Just saw a piece on Ch 13 Houston. Still searching for the man's body. They flashed a warning dated May 17 this year warning of several incidents of robbery on the lake.

Latest updates: Mexican Authorities question whether or not this really happened. SURPRISE, SURPRISE????
http://www.themonitor.com/articles/falc ... ators.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

FALCON HEIGHTS — Mexican investigators question whether a McAllen man actually was shot and left for dead during an alleged pirate attack on Falcon Reservoir last week.

Tamaulipas State Police investigators launched their search for 30-year-old David Michael Hartley on Saturday.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/10/ ... 8537.shtml
And now Mexican authorities are questioning whether the attack took place at all. In a statement, Marco Antonio Guerrero Carrizales, district attorney for the Miguel Aleman Province, writes, "We are not sure. We are not certain that the incident happened the way they are telling us."

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/10/04/to ... te-attack/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Hartley has accused Mexican authorities of "not looking" for her husband's body. She is calling on President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to pressure the Mexican government into allowing U.S. authorities to search the Mexican side of the lake.

err is the story now getting legs and with the husbands body missing and the jet skis missing, people are starting to wonder. She would be smart to take a lie detector test if offered, I would be volunteering to take one, even if it wasn't offered.

I'm wondering if they saw something they shouldn't have. :coolgleamA:

There's an article that quotes the lady as saying along the lines of, "We heard about prior criminal activity on the lake, but hadn't heard anything recently."

Ok, I know we can't live in fear all the time, but-

If I'm about to jump in a lake (as I've been asked a time or two) and somebody says, "Hey, don't forget about the Mexican Lake Pirates/Banditos/whatever" I'll be rethinking my lake activity.

There are some things that aren't adding up with the wife's story. They were supposedly 4-6 miles inside Mexico. Her husband was supposedly shot while moving from another boat that was also moving. How good or lucky does one have to be to pull that off? If her account is true, they must have been a fair distance away because she had time to come back to him and try to get him on her jetski. She said she was unable to and had to leave him because they were getting too close to her and that they may have even crossed in the U.S. while chasing her. Why didn't they just shoot her since they would have been so much closer at that point?

I'm more than just a little suspicious.
