Video, 41 secs: Wisconsin LEO shoots knife-wielding teen.
http://www.wisconsinrapidstribune.com/a ... -1/archive
In Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, a 16 year old boy with a knife was only
about 18 feet from a LEO issuing lawful commands when the boy
lunged at the LEO. The LEO dropped him with 2 rounds "as they are
taught" and the boy fell 4 feet from the LEO.
This video gives us all a prime example of how you have to be ready and
willing to shoot an attacker. The boy was moving fast, but the officer's
training allowed him to go home to his family unscathed.

The above link explains the policy of the Wisconsin Rapids PD regarding escalation of force
during incidents. One of the officers told a fellow officer to tase the young man, but when
the teenager lunged at the officer with a knife, they had no time to tase him, and had to
immediately go to deadly force (the victim survived the 2 shots and will be charged later).
I didn't happen to run across the LEO's service weapon in any of the news reports,
but I did see that a video system used in a police cruiser costs $5,500.

Look at that silly comment (link above). I just wished the author of that comment would be the target of that knife. Let him handle it.
The officer reacted as trained and executed perfectly. Let that stupid kid learn a lesson, next time, there no pain, just a black out for a long long time.

Even with the LEO having his weapon pointed at the teen, the teen was able to cover 2/3 of the distance between them before he went down... Imagine if you had to draw first.

Just goes to show that "lunging" isn't a good idea.

It doesn't get more justified than that.
I can only hope that any forum member that gets into a Self Defense shooting has video of this caliber backing them up.
Excellent example of LEO's properly doing their job.![tiphat :tiphat:](./images/smilies/tiphat.gif)

What strikes me about the whole scene (besides how the police reacted perfectly) is: what could be going on with that teen? Was he on drugs or what? It shows me how unpredictable teens can be. An acquaintance of mine who is a parole officer shared that the thing she fears the most is teen age girls.

Many kids today seem to have no regard for human life, including their own. I wish that I understood better how we got to this point.hangfour wrote:What strikes me about the whole scene (besides how the police reacted perfectly) is: what could be going on with that teen? Not meaning to sound like Travis Bickle, but are you talking to me? If you were the point of my statement regarding the Tueller Drill is, in similar situations it has been demonstrated that an assailant with a knife can easily cover 7-10 yard prior to most drawing and firing. In my opinion, 18' is within 7 yards and thus is too close (i.e. close enough to pose a deadly threat to the officer).

Hope the officer has a smooth post shoot time, and I wish him all the best.

After watching the video, now I see where the saying "still kicking" comes from.
