Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas High resource officer Scot Peterson, 56, was arrested Tuesday on charges relating to failure to enter the school during the mass shooting there.

He was charged in Broward County with seven counts of neglect of a child, three counts of culpable negligence and one of perjury after a 15-month investigation, according to a news release from Florida authorities

Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony announced Tuesday that the embattled school resource officer who was at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on the day of the school massacre has been arrested and fired for neglect of duty.

Peterson has been booked into the Broward Main Jail on 11 criminal charges, including child neglect, culpable negligence and perjury.

I'm curious to see what evidence gets presented in court. What Scot Peterson did was more than just inaction. He effectively ordered a stand down over the radio, telling every other responder to stay away while the shooting continued and victims were bleeding out. I'm not sure Peterson ever notified incident command when the shooting stopped, which also cost time/lives.

At a brief news conference, Sheriff Gregory Tony said deputies Edward Eason and Josh Stambaugh were fired Tuesday for their inaction following the Feb. 14, 2018, shooting.

"In essence, it was neglect of duty. We lost 17 people," Tony said.

While the shooter was a student, he was feared so much he was searched everyday for weapons.

It couldn't be clearer that the Parkland shooting was allowed to happen. The blame should fall on those who were in the most senior positions of authority...Sheriff Israel and the school administration.
