One man who was marching during the protest, Mark Hughes, was incorrectly identified by police as a “person of interest” in the shooting, and his photo was distributed on Twitter by the department. Hughes was open carrying a rifle, which is legal in Texas, to exercise his Second Amendment rights, but he turned over the gun to a police officer after the shooting began so he would not be mistaken as a suspect. That moment was caught on video:

Am I the only one a little unsettled by the fact that the PD used a bomb against the guy? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he got taken out and I mourn the officers lost, but this just rubs me wrong.

from what i read elsewhere the robotic arm with explosives is part of the swat teams arsenal typically used for door breaches, i have no issue with the use they had to end the standoff and prevent more lives from being lost and it became clear he was not giving himself up

Whatever they had to do, at that point, to save other lives is okay by me. They had
negotiated in good faith and he wasn't going down without a fight. He's still an immediate threat.
He had to go.

I'm not unsettled by it, and it doesn't rub me the wrong way. And IMO it doesn't do justice what that rabid animal did to those brave souls that ran to the sound of gunfire and made the ultimate sacrifice.

I agree with the others. He declared he wanted to kill white people and white cops. Murdered 5 of them. Wounded 7 others plus some citizens got injured. They negotiated until they ran out of options. I would rest just fine if I pushed the button.

I reason they blew him up, because he was wearing body armor. Though, I always thought police carried a few mags of AP with their long arms after the hollywood shootout.

Not in the least after seeing him shoot a police officer in the back.

I listened to the mayor and police chief briefing on the way to work and the fact that an explosive device was used to take out the shooter did surprise me. In fact, I did have some reservations about it. Then I saw the video of him shooting the police officer in the back. After that I don't care what they had to do to bring him down.
