Can anyone verify that this really happened at the NRA convention?

Yes... (Is there a facepalm smiley?)
The company makes about a dozen and a half zombies, all white males or animals except this one and a black one.
Guess which ones the press want to fixate on???
While all legal, the NRA needs to be more image conscious about stuff like this and screen what vendors are selling at the convention.
Here's the link. http://zombieindustries.com/shop/catego ... e-targets/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Actually they're a good idea, they are biodegradable and out west it is a big problem that people take crap like old TVs and computer equipment out to shoot on public land and then leave the trash there. But it does open the door for sensationalism.

Yes, I saw those and other Zombies 3D targets at the NRA exhibit. And Glen Beck's speech is on YouTube. So, what exactly bothers you?2firfun50 wrote:Can anyone verify that this really happened at the NRA convention?

I think the Nazi-Bloomberg reference alienated more people than it won over. While i too see the connection, it was unhelpful language.JJVP wrote:Yes, I saw those and other Zombies 3D targets at the NRA exhibit. And Glen Beck's speech is on YouTube. When I attended my NRA Basic Pistol Instructor course, it was made very clear that we shouldn't even use standard B27 targets, just 9 inch paper plates. The NRA does not train people to shoot people.JJVP wrote:Yes, I saw those and other Zombies 3D targets at the NRA exhibit. And Glen Beck's speech is on YouTube. Mythical Zombie's are one thing, but a life-like target of an ex-girlfriend, cannot be seen by the sheeple as a positive thing. This thing will be used to discredit every NRA member.
Personally, I find this so disturbing that words can not describe my initial response. The NRA needs to try to catch up and even get ahead of this situation. In politics, perception is everything and this isn't good.

Re: Say it Ain't So!!!!
With all due respect to your NRA instructor, when you have to shoot in self defense you are not shooting 9" paper plates. The CHL shooting test uses the B27's. For self defense you need to train as close as possible to real life. A BG is not going to hold a 9" plate on his chest to give you an aim point. Shooting at a 2D target is very different that shooting at a 3D target or person specially when you are shooting at an angle. Your aim point needs to be different than if you shoot a paper target from the same angle. Look it up, there are plenty of videos in YouTube showing it.2firfun50 wrote:When I attended my NRA Basic Pistol Instructor course, it was made very clear that we shouldn't even use standard B27 targets, just 9 inch paper plates. And if you look at the pic, it is a Zombie. Maybe it was a non PC name, but they are going to change it. People, specially the anti's see what they want to see. Giving up to their neurotic demands will not placate them. You give up on one thing and they will find another to be offended by.

Re: Say it Ain't So!!!!
You're absolutely right, of course. But we are talking apples and oranges here. NRA training courses are primarily designed around safety and use, not self defense (with the exception of PPOH & PPIH). Heck, TX CHL instruction doesn't focus on handgun use at all. That's why it's vital that those who carry for self defense train as much as we are able. But as instructors (NRA and/or CHL) we should use the tools that the program we are teaching requires.JJVP wrote:With all due respect to your NRA instructor, when you have to shoot in self defense you are not shooting 9" paper plates. Re: Say it Ain't So!!!!
Sorry, Android, but I must strongly disagree with this statement. Not the image conscious part. I agree that the NRA really needs to be aware of the image it projects at all times. The screen what vendors are selling part is where I disagree.android wrote:While all legal, the NRA needs to be more image conscious about stuff like this and screen what vendors are selling at the convention.
The NRA needs to screen what it sells. What a vendor sells is not their responsibility and the proper answer to outrage about "The Ex" is to say that the NRA neither endorses nor condemns any viewpoints or objects sold by the vendors. They are customers of the NRA renting space and have a free speech right to make any statement they desire with their merchandise.
I seem to remember a business trying to screen what the vendors at their conference sold recently. They were worried about the image it presented so they asked the vendors not to sell certain items. And the gun owners raised the roof about it and it ended up killing a great outdoors show in Pennsylvania. Is there really a difference between selling AR pattern rifles and dolls that look like women as targets?
EDIT: Sorry, I thoguht about it for a few more seconds and decided the NRA could take a stand condemning the viewpoint. They can express their official opinion of what is being sold too. They just should point out the First Amendment rights and stay neutral on allowing it to be sold.

I would be extremely happy with the product if it had a donkey's head.

I like zombies. Those look fun and honestly not much different than those bleeding candies they used to sell in the late 80s & early 90s. (except its a zombie.) If someone is so detached from reality that they can't tell the difference between a zombie shooting target, and a real person, they probably shouldn't have firearms.
Also, now I know what I want for mothers day.

No democrat targets yet but there is a kangaroo that if you kinda squint at it, could sort of pass for one.
