Bullet Trap - Plano

#1

Post by BrassMonkey »

Is it me, or are most of the "experienced" employees there really rude?

I have found two guys there that are really friendly and helpful. Both of the real young guys (kids :-) ) They answer all my stupid questions and let me fondle whatever I want.

Everyone else seems to have no time for someone who does not quite know what they want. I have heard the response, "It is a matter of personal preference" so many times if I hear it again I am going to throw up. What part of, "Help me form a personal preference so I can spend money here" do you not understand?!?!?!?!?!?!

It's not just you.

I've heard a couple of them talk to customers like they're stupid for asking questions or not knowing something.

I'd say more than half of the staff is very friendly, though. And even the not-so-friendlies have their good days. Last time I was in, a guy who had once told me quite curtly to "speak up" (it really rubbed me the wrong way), and is not generally eager to help, was as polite and helpful as could be.

This is the first year in many that I have not renewed my membership there and I have only run into one "rude" guy in all that time. I was asking, or trying to anyway, questions about barrels for my Ruger 10/22 and he pretty much made it clear he didn't want to talk to me.

The only other incident was when I was test firing their XD9 and couldn't get it to hold on target (the front sight was loose, range guns do get abused) and a "helpful" range officer came by to correct MY shooting. I pulled out my carry gun and shot a three round cloverleaf in the target and he said "OH!" and wandered away. O still have the target.

I find if I look for it, I can always find people who seem rude.

As a person who has worked at a gun store, I can tell you that it IS preference.

nope, it's just ya'll.

been there too many times to count. Staff is helpful, knowledgeable, willing to work with you.
The wee goil that works there could use an update in couth and Texas Law, but most GunShop folk could, too.

I am just not real big on walking into a store with a bunch of money and being treated rudely. My right is to take my money elsewhere... Right?

I have dealt with a total of 4 people there so far. The two young guys are kewl, even though I am sure they are laughing as soon as we stupid folk are out the door, one guy was just a good ole boy, no harm no foul, but this one guy, geez, I just wanna swing on the guy when I see him... Just one of those things I guess...

wow. you want to assault someone just cause he's being honest (it IS personal preference)?
maybe you should think about an anger management class before waltzing about town with a gun.

maybe you should have asked him what HIS preference was. maybe he didn't want to sell you something he liked, but thought you may not.
preference plays a LOT in buying ammo, handguns, holsters....

Wow. I've NEVER been treated rudely there, and i've been going there since 2005.

Granted, some of their advice has been sketchy, but if I've learned anything going to gunstores, asking employees at a gunstore for advice is sketchy. If you want to ask about subjective things, they are always great for that.

And I agree that guns are a subjective thing; it's better asking what guns fit a specific criteria, not asking "what's a good gun for me."

ROFL, off thread but not entirely; A bunch of years ago I had worked a super amount of overtime over a summer and decided it was time for my concert level pianist wife to have a "real" piano. We shopped around and found one that she wanted a better look at, but we only saw it through the store window out of hours. The next day I dropped by to price it.

I parked my telephone company van in front of the store and wandered in in my t-shirt, jeans, and dirty work boots, One of those really snooty and snotty type salesmen, you all know the type, came over to me and in one opf those condescending tones asked if he could help me.

I told him I wanted to know the price on that piano because I was considering buying it for my wife, and his response was "She plays does she?" in one of those truly snotty voices, so I dropped into redneck mode (I think Larry the Cable Guy was in the store and stole his act from me) and said "Yeah, well she's thinkin' of tryin' it and it's my persoinal philtoscopy that she should have the best right to start with, ya know?" and he pretty much told me that if I had to ask about the price I couldn't afford it. I said something rude to him and left.

As luck would have it, serendipity has reigned supreme in some of my best put down experiences, it turned out that one of my wife's students' mother worked in that same piano store. We negotiated the sale through her.

We arranged for the sale to be conducted when that salesman was present, and I paid cash for the $9,000.00+ piano. The snotty guy was somewhat disappointed, it was a commission sale too.

I usually do not spend my money in businesses where the employees/managers will not be courteous.

Having said that, I was in Wal-Mart recently and was getting a little irritated at the fact that they seldom had any Blazer Brass .45s in stock. For those of you that don't reload, you know Blazers are about as cheap as you're going to get, and I don't care to spend and arm and a leg to shoot paper.

I asked to speak to a manager. I told him what I, and many others, like to shoot and why. I informed him that, although Academy was a longer drive, they do usually carry an inexpensive brand of ammo for target shooting, and that I would just resort to stocking up while over there rather than fooling with Wal-Mart if I needed to. He informed me that he did not want to lose my business and that he would see to it that Brass Blazers were ordered in larger quantities.
So far, they haven't been out of Brass Blazers in .45s since. (Now I need to talk to them about other calibars.)

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

Been shooting at the Bullet Trap for a year now. No complaints, no problems.

You know how the gun business is. Tends to get tedious sometimes. Granted, theres no excuse for poor treatment of customers, but your first reaction should be compassion, not judgment.
