Grapevine Area - want active practice range
I am tired of shooting paper targets and would like to go to a place where I can practice multiple targets while I move through them. Although I am good at shooting in the typical gun range positions I feel these will be of little value in a real situation.
Where can I go near Grapevine? Thanks

Proper practice using paper targets has a lot of value. If you can't hit a stationary target, you won't be able to hit a moving target while under stress. Professional athletes exercise, have weight training, review play books, run practice drills, etc. - all of them are valuable for the "real game."MaxBerlin wrote:I am tired of shooting paper targets and would like to go to a place where I can practice multiple targets while I move through them. While paper targets do have value, many ranges do not allow things like drawing from your holster, rapid fire, multiple target engagement, etc. unless you are doing so during a competition of sorts.MaxBerlin wrote:I am tired of shooting paper targets and would like to go to a place where I can practice multiple targets while I move through them. While this isn't super close to Grapevine, you may want to give the crew at Big Boar Tactical a call. It's a private range, so you need an appointment to go out there, but the instructors and the range owner are all great people.

My range allows drawing from the holster. That is one of the reasons I joined that particular range.
I can only guess that other ranges are worried about the liability and publicity of people shooting themselves or others while drawing.
Of course, there will always be some yo-yo trying to fast draw and shooting themselves in the leg or foot.

ShootSmart allowed it in the private lane, that may have changed call and ask.

I agree with Big Boar, I took my CHL class from them. Great experience and that range is where we qualified. I think I remember them saying that range appointments are only for prior customers, but it is worth a shot to give them a call.discoqueen wrote:While paper targets do have value, many ranges do not allow things like drawing from your holster, rapid fire, multiple target engagement, etc. unless you are doing so during a competition of sorts.MaxBerlin wrote:I am tired of shooting paper targets and would like to go to a place where I can practice multiple targets while I move through them. Re: Grapevine Area - want active practice range
This is one of the big reasons my family is looking for land within 2 hours drive of DFW mid-cities. Even if I could only get out to our land (and private range) one or two weekends a month, that's better than only being able to practice dry-fire draws at home in the garage.

Shoot Smart is my favorite indoor range in DFW. Their private lanes allow drawing from concealment, rapid fire and rifle shooting.
