That doesn't seem like that bad a deal as long as they manage to stay in business. For my wife and I the break even point happens at a little over 100 range trips. Trips that I would be more likely to make since I had already paid for them. :)

Hopefully their non member prices aren't to high once they open to use the range and they will have a full retail store as well, either way we can use a good range and store on this side of town and Lone star Handgun is a great group. I used them to take my CHL class and one of their defensive handgun classes and they are real professional, knowledgeable and have good customer service which I haven't found anywhere else around here.

In NE SATX Bracken is closest to me (6 mi), Nardis will be about 10 mi. and Lone Star will be about 4 mi. The latter two too expensive for my wallet and the first (Bracken) too claustrophobic for my taste. I'll stay with Blackhawk with the 70 mi. round trip - reasonably priced, friendly and wide open spaces. Can't beat their annual membership fee. :clapping:

Winoveritas: Have you tried the Bexar Community Shooting Range? It is close by in Marion if you live on the far NE side, it is $11 if you are not a member and I believe $6 if you are, it is an unsupervised range. I mostly use the pistol range and there is nothing fancy about it just a few target stands you put your target on and place at whatever distance you want but if you go during the week or early on Saturdays you pretty much have the range all to yourself and the people that run it are also friendly.

Appreciate the heads up. I've heard of it, but it would be about the same distance (maybe slightly less) than Blackhawk where I am a yearly member and much less expensive than Community and no limit on weapons. It too is wide open, unsupervised (they supply (2) silhouette targets and no objection to your use of paste on), friendly, helpful when needed and seldom crowded when I go - early mid-morning. I'm pistol range only which also allows tactical shotguns, holstering and rapid fire. I always go during the week and avoid weekends anywhere. Pays to be your own boss. :thumbs2:

My last visit, guy in next lane was testing his new Thompson sub-machinegun - made for an interesting day. That was one heavy sucker.

I may have to check Blackhawk out, it sounds good. It is a long drive for me though, I live about 5 minutes from Bracken Range but won't make the mistake of going there again.

rev210 - Hello, neighbor. :hurry: Bracken is about 6 mi. from my front door - never again. My first trip to Blackhawk sealed the deal for me. I usually take 3-4 pistols and spend half a day very leisurely. Great little Mexican restuarant on Shepard Road on way to range. Both worth the trip. :woohoo

Lone Star appears to be conveniently located to where we intend to move, but I found nothing on their site about pricing, neither for range use, membership or classes, not a peep that I saw.

Any info?

If you go to the link she provided and scroll down below the building plans, they have a section w/ pricing. Couple grand per membership. OUch.

Well, I wouldn't be that proud of it either.

What happens when the cash from the Founding Members lifetime fees have all been spent, I suspect on construction, and there isn't enough cash flow to keep the doors open? I'm a life member of a Dixieland Jazz club here, for ~44 years, that has been closed for more than 30 years, and no refund of the membership fee. Experiences like that make a man cynical, don't you know.

I wish them well, but will pay as I go.

I'm assuming then that the family membership includes all the guns you want to bring? I see on their website (http://www.blackhawkshootingrange.com/ that they charge per gun. Bexar Community charge is per target, with additional targets being (IIRC) half price. So unless you're just bringing one gun, Bexar would be cheaper on a non-membership basis. I was told tactical shotgun was OK on the pistol range. I was also told rapid fire was OK some years back but was recently told it wasn't. That seems to be ignored. I also can't shoot my SUB-2000 PCC on the pistol range.
