Taking my daughter-in-law and son to the range a week from Saturday. We've always driven to the Garland range, mostly out of habit, but with the caliber restriction in place there it limits what we can shoot. Do you have any recommendations on outdoor rifle ranges that are within reasonable driving distance from Denton?

It depends on your definition of "reasonable driving distance".
Top Gun Shooting Club is almost 60 miles away, but you can shoot out to 500 yards.

I've never had a problem at Quail Creek near Denton. Been there many times. The only thing I don't care for is the fact that you can't shoot FMJ at the rifle range.

I can answer my own question now. Thanks for the tip on Quail Creek. We had a great day there today. We found the club house staff and ROs courteous, friendly and helpful, The range is clean, well maintained and well run. I intend to go back just as often as my schedule and budget allow.
They also have a tactical range there I want to find out more about. Apparently it is a "move and shoot" range where they allow you to draw and shoot, allow rapid fire and have moving targets - at least according to our RO who admitted he wasn't as familiar with it as he should be.
We all agreed, "Two thumbs up" for Quail Creek, at least on this Saturday.

Why the bad rap on Quail Creek? I have been there many times, and have never had a problem. I have, however, seen the RO's remove problem shooters from the line, and was glad that they did.
