This is for a friend who's son is going into the Army in Jan. and then become a Ranger....
For Christmas they want to give him a gift cert. for a Range that has an IDPA type of traing course, he's always wanted to try it out...Does anyone know on one in the Flower Mound, Grapevine, Irving area?
Thanks,
Jim

For IDPA matches, these are the three that I know of in DFW:
Cross Timbers IDPA has Thursday night shoots in the area of Ft. Worth.

Dallas Action Pistol has Wednesday night shoots, except for 3rd Wednesday when it is USPSA match style.

Also Collin County IDPA has matches every Saturday and Sunday in Greenville and Denton:

I don't know of anyone that's teaching courses in IDPA shooting. Basically, shooting a local match IS the training. You can watch other more experienced shooters and ask all the questions you want. You'll get all the advise you ever wanted and then some.
Go to
http://www.idpa.com download and read the rulebook. It spells out clearly what is required. Also, on
http://www.ccidpa.com there is a good explanation of the basic equipment needed to shoot an IDPA match.
Once the rulebook has been read, just show up with what you've got and folks will loan whatever else you need to shoot.

You might check out the matches at the Dallas Pistol Club on Belt Line AARoad at Luna in Carrollton. It's not IDPA, and there is not "training course" but it is fun.

It is a private range, but the matches are open to the public. If you want you can show up and watch a match, just bring eye and ear protection.
