Hot Wells Shooting Range

Does anyone else shoot regularly at Hot Wells Shooting Range off 290 in the Cypress, Texas area? I try to make it out there every other week. I know they're pretty strict on what they allow you to do but its really convenient for myself and I like the place/staff. I go during the middle of the week during my lunch hour.

I've emptied a lot of brass there over the years, usually when the weather is nice
or if I'm just testing a new gun or modifications to a gun.

The price is right but the restrictions make me choose to pay a little
more at an indoor range.

BTW, have you been to Spring Guns and Ammo?
It's a fairly new range that's in the area.

I've never been to Hot Wells... what kind of restrictions do they have in place?

The most annoying is the "2 seconds between shots" rule.
It's understandable because there are subdivisions nearby and
rapid fire can result in stray rounds going over the berms.

Another is the restriction of silhouette targets.
Perhaps they feel that shooting at human shaped targets may
appear insensitive to younger spectators (just a guess on my part).

You are only allowed to shoot at small generic round targets
that are practically at ground level.

It's a great place to go if you just want to shoot a gun, but if you want
to test you skills at varying distances on more "life like" targets, then
an indoor range would be more suitable IMO.

I have not ben to Spring Guns and Ammo. Honestly, I didn't even know it was there. That would have to be a evening or weekend spot for me. I do like what I saw on the website though. Thanks for the heads up on that one.

I'll ask them about this the next time I'm out there.

I shoot there every other weekend also. Some limitations, but the price and staff cannot be beat. As far as targets, they will let you use your own as long as it fits on the stands. (2 - 12X12 size I think)

Hey guys not to hijack here but how is Spring Guns and Ammo? I have been thinking about taking a trip out there with a friend who lives close, but was a little intimidated by the fact that they only have a few lanes and may be crowded on the weekends. Hotwells is nice but I am not a fan of their restrictions or the way the range is setup, overall as you guys said it is a nice range especially if your introducing the timid to shooting.

The last time I went was on a weekend and had to wait about 45 minutes, but other than that it's a nice clean, well ventilated, and well lit range. There are plenty of goodies to look at while you wait though.

Judging by what I saw and read on the website I wouldn't have a problem wasting 2 hours looking at all the goodies!
I was planning on going out to Hot Wells between noon and 1 tomorrow (11/4). I sure the hope the weather clears up by then!

I live around the block from Spring Guns and Ammo and stopped in there last week just to check the place out and empty a box of rounds on their range. Nice clean place.. Not enough lanes but they are in the process of expanding. The staff was nice and helpful. I will deffeneitly be returning there!

I'll be out at Hot Wells Shooting Range tomorrow shortly after noon till about 12:45 to get in a quick practice session. I'll be the one on the pistol range shooting a Glock.

Which guy? The guy that has time in the middle of the day to go shooting, or the guy that shoots a Glock?
Either way, I envy that guy. :cryin

It is nice to slip out of the office for a bit and go make some noise!
I'll help narrow it down a little more. I'll be the guy shooting a Glock, wearing a camo ball cap and a camo range bag sitting next to me.

I like to punch paper there about once a week ( wife says I need my FIX, LOL ) I guess because I am always in a good mood when I get back home. Most of the pistol shooting i do is with a 24 power scoped pistol ( XP100 or Conteders at 100yards)
