Are you folks aware of the range at Bass Pro in Grapevine?
They have 5 or 6 lanes, $8.00 range fee, open until 8:00.

Their range had burned up a year or so ago. Seems someone fired a blackpowder weapon and caught the place on fire. Took them a long time to decide whether to reopen it. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they did.

I am hoping the Bass Pro going in at the west end of 30/Lake Ray Hubbard will have a range as well, I live within jogging distance of that place. I could shoot on my lunch breaks and the wifie would never have a reason to complain!!

Unless Bass Pro has changed, the one time I went they had to put a gunlock on every gun I brought (and unfortunately I had 5 of them). Everyone looking at you while they check the gun to make sure it's empty and then put the lock on it. The guy was pointing the gun all over the place and checked that the mag was out of the gun but didn't check the chamber.

Next they asked me how many MAGS I had and how many rounds of ammo and what caliber.

They wouldn't let me use my silhouette targets.

I'm a member of a local range but just wanted to check out Bass Pro. I guess it was a nice range and all but it was just too much hassle for me. Of course the price is great. Maybe it's changed now??

You didn't hand it to him with the slide locked back?

I'm rather about that, and I hate to have someone hand me a gun without "showing clear". Even when they don't, I extend the courtesy --pointedly at times-- before handing it back.

I have been there a lot. They no longer lock your gun if you have a CHL. I also like the fact that if no one is waiting they are not strict about the one hour. For the most part they all are very nice people.

Agreed.
Sheltering the kids is one thing but you would look long and far to locate a 10 yr old who didn't know and use that term.

Appears that our Mods may have gotten that condition.

It's OK to use Freud's adjective for "repressed and controlling"; at least you hear it on prime-time TV. It's quite another to talk about buggery.

You can use the Preview button to see whether a word is going to be deleted from your message. I just tested it with an obviously banned word.

Thanks for the info. Non contextual filtering would certainly explain this particular deletion.

That must be some filter list. Perhaps "buggery" should be added to it.

I was at a Bass Pro in Vegas, to get some Ammo for my trip to Front Sight. My buddy and I decided to do some shooting, since they had a range. They gave me the whole, "trigger lock my gun" thing, too.

The rangemaster there was really awesome though. Since we were out of towners and didn't have a "blue card" (handgun regestration required in vegas) he let us shoot anyway. I was wearing an IDF shirt an Israeli friend sent me a while ago, and he was impressed with my support for Israel. Due to that shirt, we got free range time

The range itself was lackluster, even though it was new. We left when I began to taste the telltale taste of lead in the back of my mouth; the ventilation there was poor.

I had to write one into a computer program. It's quite hard to hit all the obscenities and avoid deleting harmless words.

I figure buggery is over the head of most 10-year-olds.

My one impression with the Grapevine location was positive. The range guy was Chris, young, polite, knowledgable. He was showing off an antique break-open S&W revolver he had just acquired. I was there shopping, unprepared to shoot and unfamiliar with the rules and equipment, but he was very helpful, even patient.
I had to go to the car and get my other pistol. When I came back he asked if I had them on me. I said 'yes'. He asked if I had a CHL, and that was all he needed.
Right now that's my range of choice, and fairly close to home. I still need to check the Haltom City club though

I have shot at the Grapvine store several times and they allow me to use the range for CHL classes when the weather is too cold for outdoor range.

Price is $8 per hour.

My impression is they are very nice people, the range is good though not heated/cooled. I was told a month or so ago they will add AC/Heat shortly during a renovation... which will make it very good indeed.

I give the range a good grade...

No I did not hand him my guns with the slide locked back. When I started to unzip the carrier for the first gun, he told me that he would take them out of my bag, check them and lock them. Guess he didn't want me handling the gun until it was locked, I don't know. But regardless, even once the gun has been checked he still shouldn't have been pointing them at people.

Certainly the range was nice and the people nice, but I'll stick to my regular gun range just because of the time it takes to get in and out. I don't take just one gun and as such it's just a hassle.

At least they do have a place you can shoot handguns which is more than I can say for some sporting stores. I've purchased 2 guns from them and they were very helpful.

That's the time for the hairy eyeball: "So, you expect me to hand you a firearm that you might or might not know anything about, when you don't know if it has been cleared? What kind of gun safety does this store teach, anyway?"
