Range Report....The Arms Room 09/17/2010

Let me first start by saying that today (18th September) is a officialy grand opening of The Arms Room, they are having a day full of door prizes, food, raffles and discounts..the hours are 10-4
My friedn from church wanted to take his new firearm (a Hi-Point 9mm) out for a spin so him and his wife and my wife and I headed for The Arms Room Indoor range at I-45 and 646 in League City.
The place is excellent! Roomy, airy, great lighting, the lanes are wide and the range has a permanent safety person 'on duty'. Sure it is a little pricey ($18 for two [people sharing a lane for one hour) but it is a worthwhile price. I have been tardy in visiting the range because of the price but I figure I saved on gas by not having to drive to Marksman.
The intial registration was a drag but that is a once a year deal and I am not too happy at having to leave my drivers license with them, even un happier at them swiping it through a computer! But oh well.
Personally I had 3 objectives I wanted from the visit.
1) To have fun!
2) To check the alignment on the recetly fitted Trijicon sights on the Glock 30
3) To shoot the Taurus 709 successfully!
Having set my buddies wife up with the 22 conversion on the Glock 30 I pretty much left them alone, but later on I noticed that the conversion kit stopped functioning (they handed it back to me saying they had finisshed shooting and I noticed a spent casing stuck in the pipe!). I cleared the pipe racked another 22 in there and...nothing! I cleared it again and stripped it down and replaced the 45 slide back on there.
As she had my G30 I missed objective #2 until later.
The Taurus became priority numer 1 for me, my wife shot her G19. 50 rounds and some pointers from Bill (The range safety officer on duty and the store owner) and the Taurus was hitting where it was pointed nicely. The trigger pull on that gun is about 5.6 miles and the anticipation was killing me! Once I got over all that...bingo. No adjustments required!
Eventually I got my hands back on my beloved G30 with it's proper slide on. The sights were spot on! What a great job Roy (of T's guns and ammo) does. So far I am impressed with the TriJicons. They were easy to see in the range lighting and they glow wonderfully on the night stand too :)
All in all a successfully range trip, very enjoyable shooting the breeze with the staff. Elizabeth even let my wife shoot her 380. Sig (of course now my wife wants one of those...Thank you Elizabeth!)
The Amrs Room have an impressive setup, lots of guns available to rent, awesome ear protectors to borrow, so much shooting knowledge available to tap too.
This may have been our first visit to the Arms Room, but it certainly won't be the last.

Edit: I forgot to add. I tried shooting the Hi-Point 9mm and while I have nothing really negative to report, I will say that I don't mind if I never shoot one again. The weapon was pretty accurate but I didn't like either the look or the feel of the gun. It was heavy in the hand and the slide doesn't lock back when the gun is empty....or at least the one I shot didn't. I will stick to the G19, XD9 or the Taurus.
I did manage to handle a Dan Wesson 1911 in the shop. Very nice, very smooth, very expensive!....but certainly shows the proof in the adage that you get what you pay for. The contrast between the 1911 and the Hi-Point was definate proof of that!![thumbs2 :thumbs2:](./images/smilies/thumbsup2.gif)
