I am going to be in Plano next week for work and one of my colleagues that lives up there might want to try some of my handguns out since he is looking for one. I saw Bullet Trap on here, but it seems they are less than stellar based on some of the comments on here. Anyone have some decent suggestions of some near the area and that may be open late in the evening?

Thanks.

Your only option IN Plano is the Bullet Trap and if memory serves correctly they are open till 8pm.
There are a couple others that you could visit if willing to drive a few miles.

Garland outdoor range is open until 8 PM if you don't mind driving a few miles. It isn't that far if you are on the west side of Plano.

Otherwise, its the Bullet Trap, which is not bad if you are just sneaking in for a night or two.

Driving a few miles shouldn't be an issue. Of course the definition of "driving a few miles" in Texas is relative. :thumbs2:

Thats why when you ask for directions in any other state they give you distance in miles....in Texas we give you distance in time. :biggrinjester:
Where are you going to be staying?

Depending on your location while here, either would be good. I will send you a PM with some info.

I was in Plano a few weeks ago to visit my daughter and her family. My son in-law and I went to Target Masters in Garland. It is an indoor facility. The staff was great and we had a great time. If memory serves me right, they were open until 9:00 PM.

Criticism of The Bullet Trap is a load of hogwash. I have been shooting there for 35 years and never had any kind of problem beyond the usual annoyances any retail establishment suffers from. I became a member so I could shoot there chapeap and I go about twice a month.

Isn't true that the range fee is bit high at Bullet Trap?

Uh, no I wouldn't say so.

It's $8 for all day (members). After 5 on Fri, up to 3 additional family members can shoot on your lane for FREE. Pretty tough to beat free. Ladies Night fee is $5 for the ladies.

YMMV

For non-members:

Range Fees - Non Members
$18.99: Per lane 1 person
$35.00: Per lane 2 people
$7.00: Children 17 & under

For members:
$7.99/day plus $110 per year. After 10 Visits/year the member would start saving over number.

Visits at Garland Public ranges are only $10/day. First time visit is $10 more.

I live just a few miles from the Bullet Trap and while I don't think their fee's are too excessive it just isn't a friendly place to go IMHO (case in point, don't ask them to do a transfer). I know they suffer the same problem any retail outlet has with a very large number of employees and what appears a frequent turn over there. I have purchased a few guns from them at what I felt was a fair price but have seen some I considered over priced the same as you might anyplace. For range time I make the drive to the Garland public range.

Theres my suggestion. Garland Public. $10 lifetime membership fee, and 10 dollars per day use fee. The staff is a bunch of old timers, and sticks to their rules. Ammo is purchasable on site (all transactions in cash only). From plano, if you take the George Bush Tollway East, you can get there in less than 20 minutes. Outdoor range, if its busy theres regular breaks for new targets, if its only 1 or 2 on the range, you coordinate yourselves.

This is where i shoot!

It is looking like Bullet Trap it will be for us tomorrow night. Should be an enjoyable evening after a long day at work. I've never shot with these guys, and it has been refreshing working at a place with so many enthusiasts, much less some having their plastic. LOL

Wed is Ladies Night. Should be a good mix of shooters. Hope you have a good time.
