Does onyone know if there are any gun ranges in or around Baytown?

I live pretty close to Baytown (Crosby) and I do not know of anything in the area. I looked and looked but never found ANYTHING!

The best place close to Baytown is the Texas City Municipal Range (Outdoor), it is a great place!

There is a nice indoor range in Humble...Sportsmans Outlet.

A great way to find a range is http://www.wheretoshoot.org/Find_Range/index.asp.

The only problem with this site is that they list some private clubs that don't return your phone calls.

By all means go to Texas City if you like it. We shoot there and we want to see it stay in business.

Bay Area Shooting Club, formerly near Bayer Chemical near Baytown, has opened our new range just east of Crosby.

If anyone remembers, our Baytown range was the victim of Home Depot's bullying legal staff. They built their distribution center near the old range and then forced us to close or go bankrupt fighting them legally.

The old site was sold and the group was able to purchase a 200 acre hardwood tract at the east end of Euell Rd, off Bohemian Hall Rd.

It opened last December and the membership year was recently changed to start in September.

It has been extremely expensive and the range will continue to develop as finances allow.

Right now, we have a 200 yd berm and a paved firing line with about 16 shooting stations. The cover for the firing line is planned soon, but as a temporary solution, umbrellas were purchased that attache to the shooting benches.

For shotgun, there is a mowed area facing opposite the firing line. Bring your own trap and shoot away.

Other features are being considered for future development.

I live in Highlands and am interested in info (cost,restrictions,plans)

For example could I bring some target stands and shoot pistols instead of rifles at the 200 yard line?

Recently almost all my shooting has been IDPA style pistol work. Would there be enough interest to consider setting up an IDPA club to shoot a monthly match there? Currently there are 4 active IDPA clubs in Houston area, Thunder Shooters (outdoors) north of town, Eastex (indoors) on 59 north, PSC (outdoors) South of town and I can't remember name of club but they shoot outdoors west of town.

Also, there is an outdoor range on north side of Channelview on Garret road(I think) but I can't remember the name.

What we have are made up target frames on 1x2's and PVC pipe inserts in the ground to stick them into.

The left side of the firing line has 3 rows (I think) of inserts out to 10yds.

The right side has inserts at 25 (a few), 50, 100, & 200 yds.

Most restrictions are just common sense.

Don't shoot the yard markers, (intentionally) shoot the target frames, first person there wears the range officer vest and controls the firing line, etc.

There is no shooting before sunup or after sundown.

Oh, and no shooting of deer, hogs, or other wildlife.

The rates are:

Basic membership $120
Spouse full membership $ 60
Family membership $ 35
Guest cards 1-3 $15 each

The spouse full membership means both have full membership in the range and the basic member need not be present.

The family membership is only justified if there would be 3 shooters besides the basic member. Two guest gards would only cost $30.

Besides, guest cards can be used by anyone you would like to take.

Except for the spouse full membership, the basic member must be present.

I would be lying if I told you that we are likely to have IDPA anytime soon. Many of us are interested, but I don't think our membership is large enough to support a group yet.

Myself, I still belong to PSC.

The range you mentioned on Garrett Rd. was the old Pondersosa (Lake Houston Gun Club). It closed permanently last December.

I'm not a board member, so am not privy to actual plans.

One project that I believe is in the working stages is a cover for our firing line.

From what I hear, the priorities would be a separate pistol range and another berm for long range shooting.

We have plenty of room to grow, but growth will be limited by money.

We have the note on 200 acres, taxes, operating expenses all coming out of our dues. The critical factor is a steady growth of members.

The copy I have still shows a membership year of Nov 1, 2005-Oct 1, 2006.

Just draw a line through that and write in Sept 1, 2006-Aug 31, 2007.

I have a question about the range.
Are the fees pro-rated? Ex: If I join next month (Nov.), will they charge me $100 for self and another $40 for dh?

I have an application, I'm just sitting on it and deciding if I want to join or not. It really doesn't have much, but I don't know of much else around here.

We wil be spending some time in Baytown over the next few months and thought it would be nice to find this place to go shoot .

I'm not at all sure about pro-rating.

When the start of the membership year was changed to Sept 1st, there was a program during late spring and summer that would have let someone pay pro-rated rates for last year IF they paid the full amount for the upcoming at the same time.

You would need to call the number listed on the application for questions regarding membership. I will email that number privately to anyone that needs, but without their permission, am reluctant to post it online.

I haven't seen the sign mentioned, so am not sure if it's the same.
Tell me where the sign is and by tomorrow evening, I will look at it.

The range is NNE of Baytown, 11.2 miles and about 20 minutes from the intersection of I-10 and North Main in Baytown.

Again, you should probably inquire about any kind of short term usage.

I have just applied to BASC. I was put on the waiting list to join. From reading this post of 07 i guess membership has grown and continues to grow.I hope i can join and help the club grow.I would be willing to volunteer in maintenance and upkeep of the range. I currently live in Mont Belviue and do most of my shooting at my brothers place on Adlong Johnson. My brother and friend are also eager to join.It would be great to someday have a 3gun match here .

Some issues are relevant over a period of years. Shooting ranges generally don't open and close overnight.

47 months. Typically ranges do open and close overnight; I mean, I have never seen one go out of business mid-day.

Wish we had more ranges around this area. Currently looking to Anahuac for private land.

I don't know Anahuac well, but it seems like a place where you could buy enough relatively cheap land to have a private range. Just be careful about which county you are in.
