Police Training Range in Humble/Atascocita area?

#1

Post by Lodge2004 »

Is anybody aware of a police training range in the Humble/Atascocita area? More specifically, an outdoor range within a few miles of the Will Clayton Rd & Atascocita Drive intersection.

I moved into that area about 2 years ago and frequently hear gunfire in the distance. Not the bad neighborhood type, but like a military or police range with flash bangs, full auto, etc...Since I grew up on military bases, it kinda brings back good memories.

I've looked on Google Earth and have not been able to find anything. There are also no signs in the area indicating a range. I have walked down the bayou behind my house and there is a large wooded area with a berm around it that is marked keep out. I believe they also have a Harris County Sheriff badge on the signs. My guess is there is some type of outdoor training facility in that area or the sound travels a long way up the bayou from somewhere else.

Anybody familiar with this site?

That's gotta be the Harris County Sheriff’s Academy. It's right at the intersection of Atascocita and Ygancio.

Thank you. This is VERY close to me. Can't believe I missed it, but then again, I never drive in that direction.

Well, if you spelled "Ygnacio" the way I did, no wonder you missed it. Darned tiny keyboards...
