Is there a range in the Richmond / Rosenberg Area? I don't mind American Shooting Center, but I would like something a little closer to where I live, 59 and 99 (Grand Pkwy). :fire

Not that I know of. There are two ranges South of you - Bayou Rifles and Greenwood - and two Northwest of you - the other Bayou Rifles range, and a place called Impact Zone, near Brookshire.

For Bayou and Greenwood, go down Grand Parkway - turns into FM 762 - stay on 762 until it dead ends at FM 1462 and turn left. 1462 dead-ends at FM 521; turn left for Bayou Rifles, turn right for Greenwood.

Bayou has another range - pistol only, no centerfire rifle - near Addicks; Eldridge at I-10. Impact zone has been mentioned on this Forum - seach and you will find a link to their web site. I think they are mostly IDPA.

PSC is best if you were farther South or East. You can go in on 59 to 6, South on 6 to 35, left, and get there in probably less than an hour.

If you find a range close to you, please post about it. I live just West of you, am a member at Bayou, and would welcome someplace closer.

Regards,
Andrew

Your question reminds me of the good old days when I worked at the now long gone Southwest Rifle Range on Old Richmond Road in Sugar Land. I don't even want to say how long ago that was. :grumble

Wow, I remember that range. It was my first range experience back in the 80's.

The impact zone will not reply to any of my emails about membership, American Shooting Center is very restrictive in the types of shooting they allow and the staff is not the most pleasant but tolerable. Top gun is at 59 and Fountain View, but they are indoor pistol range with some rifle allowed w/ frangible ammo only. They have the best pistol facility I have found but lack in rifle. Top Gun has not ever corrected me in any way shape or form, just follow the rules and play fair. Rapid fire and shooting from a holstered weapon are also allowed. I am looking for a place to shoot rifles and pistols alike in a less restrictive environment. I am willing to pay membership dues or application fees, but some of these places are harder to gain access than Fort Knox...or they just make it not worth the time and effort for the condition the range is kept. My .02 and I am always looking for more cents...

Phil Oxley is the owner and may check email twice a year. If you call him, you will get a much faster response. His cell is 832-274-8549.

Phil (Impactzone) works a day job, so it may be at night when he calls back.

RECIT,

Bayou Rifles is right down the road from Sugar land. Web site in my signature, maps there, new member information there, and I think range rules.

There is a rule against drawing and firing from the holster - the club has an excellent safety record and is pretty conservative. You can practice drawing at home; there is no rule against "rapid fire" or anything like that.

Regards,
Andrew

Thanx a lot guys. I am going to call him tomorrow and inquire. I appreciate the info about Bayou as well. I will be looking into them both in the near future.

Bayou Rifles is great. I joined this year and have been very pleased. I use to shoot once every few months and now I go almost once a week. :hurry:
