Elk Castle on I-30 on the west side of town does. It's an indoor range with 7 25-yard pistol lanes but one lane is set up for rifles. You should call first because they don't allow rifles when they have a CHL class going on.

Alpine said No to FMJ.

I don't know about Winchester. I think they allow it.

PS. I'll help you break in that "ton of FMJ". :D

Try Haltom City Riifle and Pistol Club. It requires your to join, pay an initiation fee, attend a 2 hour orientation, etc., but it's awesome. Aside from the one-time initiation fee of $150, dues are onlty $75 a year. Plus they have lanes that range from 50-200 yards for the rifles. All ammo OK, except for tracer and incendiary.

I've shot a lot of other places, and this place is great. Run by a bunch of nice good 'ol boys who believe is safety first and enjoying yourself second. Although it takes a little more to get in, it's soooooooo worth it.

Winchester will allow FMJ, a long as a magnet doesn't stick to the bullet. This is their litmus test as to whether you have to buy their rifle ammo at $1 a round. Anything that sticks to a magnet they consider "armor piercing". Obviously, they don't know the difference between a steel-cored bullet and one that has an alloy jacket. Even if you bring documentation or use a dremel to cut off the top of the bullet to prove it's OK, they don't care. They want you to buy their overpriced ammo.

This place is definitely the way to go!

the only thing stoping me from joining is they limit mags to 5 shots per mag on rifle right?

and on a private club i think the member should be able to draw from holster while shooting pistol ... but thats not that big of a deal

5 rounds to a semi-auto....not a big deal to me. No drawing from the holster....more dangerous than you might think. You can always practice those draws at home with snap caps.

You can't shoot anything that resembles a human form, so those are out, along with our Osama Bin Ladin posters. The only exception is the official CHL target, which may be used on their CHL lanes.

Wow, until now I wasn't aware that an AR can't be zeroed in using bullseye targets, shoot-n-see targets, or even a pie plate. Exactly which model of AR requires a silhouette to sight in? I'll be sure not to buy that model. Does it refuse to fire, or does it just demand out loud to be taken back to the car unless you can point him at something better? "rlol"

I was going to explain "why" they have that rule, but something tells me that I would be wasting my time. Should you later decide that having 50-200 yd rifle lanes available in the middle of the city where you can shoot FMJ is more important than plinking human forms, you can consider joining then. In the meantime, enjoy the long drive to an equivalent facility or some private property. On those long drives, perhaps you can explain to your AR that his refusal to spit bullets out at non-silhouette targets has caused you to have less money for that .223 ammo, with the price of gas these days. Maybe he'll be reasonable and let you join then.

This assumes that the only thing stopping you from joining is not having more than five rounds in your clip at a time, as you mentioned above.

Long story short, you're not going to have your cake and eat it too. Your options are: 1) Join HCRPC, a great place with great people that is 10 miles from you, and follow their rules, which are NOT unreasonable, or 2) drive to a different county that's an hour each way that MIGHT be even more lenient that HCRPC, or 3) reinlist in the military, where you can load your clip with as many rounds as you want and shoot whatever Sgt. Carter allows. I'm not being rude, I'm telling you the truth. You live in the middle of the city now, and with firearms you don't get everything your way like at Burger King. Unless you have a friend that owns land in unincorporated Tarrant County that is close, you're stuck with those three options. Sorry bud. :???:

I was at Johnson County Shooting Sports this past weekend. The Cross Timbers IDPA club www.ctidpa.com ran a carbine match. We got to run and gun with our ARs. They have a 100 and 200 yard rifle range there and you can shoot any target you have. No rules about human shaped targets or limits to rounds in your mags. The catch is... it's also a private club. I only got to shoot there because it was venue for the carbine match. If you know someone that is a member, I believe they can take you. I'm not.

no need to be rude

I have a ton of these targets ... I would rather use them than a pie plate

Could you be less stupid? seriously .... I see no reason to not shoot at human shaped targets other than politically correct garbage. I really would love to hear why the shape of the ink on a target matters so much. What ever the reason ... if i am shooting a FMJ bullet at a target its gonna do the same thing that it would if i were shooting at a pie plate or shoot n see target.

oh and if the reason is "well you might mistake the target for someone downrange .... thats moronic ... if you cant tell the diffrance at 200 yards you need to stop shooting distance. I dont see why i chouldnt be able to shoot at a "man or tombstone shaped target" because some idiot shot at someone.
