Went looking for thunder ranch near Mountain Home, TX and could only find thunder ranch in Oregon. When I did a google search there were a few sites for thunder ranch in TX but the requested server could not be found. So I guess they up and left TX for Oregon. So where is a good place in TX to take some defense carry classes similar to what would be offered at either thunder ranch or gunsite academy in AZ.

Obviously I'm new here. Went searching in the other forums and found the information I was looking for.

Welcome to the forum and sorry for the slow response. Yep, to my dismay, TR moved to Oregon. My wife and I have taken many classes at TR in Texas and we've taken Team Tactics (for the 5th time) at the Oregon facility. It's a great location, just a lot further than Mt. Home. I still highly recommend it and the new location won't deter Martha and I from going.
The TR - Oregon web site lists a couple of schools Clint strongly recommends; one in Texas - Rifles Only and Shootrite in Huntsville Alabama. Rifles Only now offers pistol classes as well. There are other schools in Texas, but I have no personal experience with any of them, so I can't comment. The only reason I mention these two is because of Clint's endorsement.
Regards,
Chas.

Charles,
Do you know if the TR Texas site is for sale? Might be a business venture

The "ranch" was leased and the property owner stated he doesn't want anyone running a school there, except Clint.

Any idea of why TR left Texas in the first place?? Was it maybe lack of overall Texan support?? or the state of Texas giving them problems??

Nope, no problems with the State or anyone else; it was purely a personal decision. Clint's wife Heidi is from the Pacific northwest area and she has family in Oregon. They wanted to own their own property and they chose Oregon so Heidi would be close to her family, if anything happened to Clint.
One of the instructors (not Clint) once told me that prior to the announcement in 2003 that they would be moving to Oregon, only about 10-15% of their students were from Texas. After the announcement it ran about 60% for a year or so. Every class I attended had a large majority of non-Texans, except for the last year.
I miss TR being in Texas; the mere 5 hour drive was great. However, with the smaller classes in Oregon, Clint is with you 100% of the time and that's great! So, it's a different location, but the same great people and classes.
Regards,
Chas.

There are a couple of decent schools in Texas...
I like Texas Pistol Academy at Sherman a lot... in part because it is only about 90 minutes from home.
FWIW
