San Antonio ranges

Post by Bad4zzCh1ck »

:seeya: Hey there. I'm a newbie on here. Just got a 9mm Springfield XD, and now I need to know where I can go to practice with it. I'll probably take my CHL course next month, where I'm sure I can get more info on local ranges. In the meantime, I wanted to go shoot some paper bad-guys. Can anyone suggest some good places in San Antonio?

Thanks!!

The two that I use regularly are Bracken Range and Bullet Hole. I prefer Bracken for its safety and always having a range master on hand, but Bullet Hole is much more reasonable on price if you are willing to coordinate with all the other shooters. Bullet Hole claims to have a range master all the time, but they are almost always MIA when I have been there.

What side of town are you on? That will help with the list of ranges. I go to Bracken and took my CHL class at Bullet Hole. I also like Cedar Ridge Range on 1863. For the price, I think that Cedar Ridge is better then the others. I have also gone to Blackhawk, but it is on the deep south side of town. There are a few others in town, but these are then ones that I have gone to.

I used to go to Bullet Hole when I lived in SA. You can check http://www.wheretoshoot.org for ranges in your area.

Thank you all. I live on the NW side of town. It seems there are only a small handful of places to go practice around here.

In my opinion, going east on 1604 to Bracken would be worth the trip. Nice range..great folks. Opens at 9AM on Tuesdays.

P.S. As you may or may not know..Bullethole has a selection of full autos for rent. If you've never shot one...it's worth it!

I didn't know. Thanks! I'm going to have to go over there and play.

You may want to check out Blackhawk in SW Bexar County... http://www.blackhawkrange.com/

If you are just getting into pistol shooting and intend on getting your CHL check out the IDPA club there. It is a great way to improve your gun handling skills instead of standing and shooting holes in paper. The guys at RiverCity Shooters are a good bunch, I shoot there sometimes. http://www.rivercityshooters.org/

Good luck!

I'm going to modify my earlier comments about Bullet Hole. I was out there today and they actually had two range masters working with the folks out there. However, with as many people as they had there, I was constantly being pelted with brass. They need to figure out how to put up some dividers for when it is busy there.

Mac, it sounds like you went from one bad experience to the next, but you're still going back. There must be more redeeming qualities over at the Bullet Hole than there are problems. Is it just the cost that you keep going back for?
