Well, first let me say that the IDPA match I attended today was run superbly with safety in mind and all participants acting accordingly. Stages were set up very well and the layout was superb. A great day for shooting at a nice range with the best croud of people, bar none. It's one of the best run matches i've attended to date.

But...................

During the match we were constantly peppered with shotgun BB's. Some stung a little bit and when I asked another shooter what was going on I got an "It's typical" reply. Not sure about anyone else, but that's not typical for me and should be prevented in the future. I've emailed the webmaster of their website but didn't see any contact info other than that on there. I hate to be the one to cry foul, but I'd hate to see another great place to shoot shut down because someone loses an eye over it.

...........and the reply from the range was basically "We've had this problem for years and haven't changed it because we don't want to upset anyone."

Sorry, but that's one range I'll be avoiding. Putting safety on hold to keep people happy is an accident waiting to happen.

After recommendations to improve safety and offers to assist with posting warnings or helping out, the official reply was "Thanks"...........Basically, I don't feel that it's being given the attention it deserves, so I'll be shooting elsewhere. Sad, with so many ranges closing down, having to avoid a great range because of this is truly sad.

That's too bad. I was thinking about shooting a match there. If Safety isn't their primary concern then I'll shoot elsewhere.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961
