Spring Guns and Ammo
I am trying to get some information on this place. It was mentioned to me in passing (from a source that I trust but not on this subject) that the rules are a little "lax" making it a little unsafe.
Anyone have any experience with this place? I have been driving down to Top Gun range which is quite a haul when Spring Guns & Ammo is litterally 5 minutes away.

Re: Spring Guns and Ammo
It's only dangerous when I'm there.
Seriously though, it operates the same as most other ranges. Everyone behaves themselves and I have never felt uncomfortable. There's a huge glass window for management to keep an eye on folks....especially me.

Shiloh indoor range is off 1960 just east of Cutten on Shiloh Church rd. I haven't been to SG&A yet, it's about the same distance for me either way.

SG&A clean, cool, well ventilated. Older staff are knowledgable and professional. Younger staff, on hand during busy periods, can help with range info and directions. Ranges are well lit, retrieval systems work, blast dampening works(your wife won't freak when the guy next to you lets go with his S&W 500), allows rifle calibers, good pricing on weapons and accessories. Can Get REALLY BUSY, like Disney Busy, on the weekends. Tues, Weds, Thurs, 1/2 price for seniors, ladies, vets respectively 10 to 5. I like Tues. and Thurs.! I'm disabled and they allow me to have a chair in my lane so I can easemyknees when my wife is shooting. 15.00 per hour, no limit on guns(2 trips to the car) 2 shooters can share a lane at no additional charge.

Cool, I'll have to check it out. I've just gone to Shiloh because i have some friends there and the staff have been extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.
Glad I have a couple of options close.

Re: Spring Guns and Ammo
It is a nice place, and very convenient for us. The staff has always been very nice and helpful. Everytime we go in they have "new shiney things" Got a new range bag last night! It was the first time we have had to wait for a lane, they had a Glock club going on on 1/2 the lanes, but there was stuff to keep us entertained.
They were my FFL for my Liberty and very nice. They saw I was excited when it came in (I got there 5 minutes after the delivery truck) and stopped what they were doing on checking stuff in to check mine in so I could take her home. They are nice to us "girls" and have never talked "slower and louder" so I could understand.
Drop on in and check 'em out! We have been pleased thus far.

Never had any issues with SGA. Seems safe, new, clean and friendly.
I tend to actually like Shiloh for the low light level and less crowded. I go there most often during the week. They let me go in the back range (lower light) and practice draw and fire from concealment since I have done some of their tactical/safety classes.
ETA SGA has a pretty impressive gun selection (for sale) and rents guns as well.

Re: Spring Guns and Ammo
I have been to both and both have pros and cons. SGA you can shoot rifles, its cooler, good lighting and 2 bucks cheaper then Shiloh. SGA is more of a gun shop with a good amount of firearms to choose. These are the pros. Cons for me are that while they do give you a table area to set your bag it is 10 feet or so from where you shoot. I think walking back and forth if you bring several firearms is a little annoying and whenever people start moving guns back and forth at a range there is bound to be accidents.
I guess I just like to keep things simple with the stalls where your guns are next to you and there is no movement of firearms from bench to stall. There is not enough room to set much more then a box of ammo and a pistol in your stall. SGA is by the hour. Shiloh will let you shoot all day if the lane is not needed. Also, the staff at Shiloh is clearly more tactical based if your into that and in my opinion seem more knowledgeable about firearms.
Both are good but if you want to bring your arsenal in on a weekday between 10-4 Shiloh is the range. I put well over a thousand rounds down range one weekday afternoon and I was there for at least 2 1/2 hours and they only charged me for an hour. If I just wanted to pop off 100-200 rounds and had only one firearm with me I would go to SGA.

Re: Spring Guns and Ammo
On a side note of range safety I have learned that every shooting range that I have gone to in my area has had accidental gun shot wounds. I actually saw a guy say his shotgun was jammed and then he pointed it in range down the whole row of shooters. Scared me half to death and guess what the gun was not jammed the guy just left the safety on and when he couldn't figure out what was wrong he turned to this right with shotgun in hand pointing at all of us at the range! As far as I know SGA has not had any but they are new. My point is that no matter how safe a gun range is there is bound to eventually be accidents. Be safe and if you feel that the person in the stall next to you is unsafe, MOVE!
I have left a certain range in this area twice and on the second time refused to ever go back. Once was the shotgun incident and the other a guy was noticeably drunk while shooting.
I won't mention this range by name. It is not Shiloh or SGA but another range in the area.

Re: Spring Guns and Ammo
When we go we typically have several hand guns. We will either leave the two we are using on the shooting bench, and load mags at the table. Leaving any additional weapons in the range bags on the table. The table states for loading magazines only, no loaded weapons. So your weapon should not be loaded until you are at the bench and facing down range. JMPHO. This is what we have taught our girls as well.CC Italian wrote: I think walking back and forth if you bring several firearms is a little annoying and whenever people start moving guns back and forth at a range there is bound to be accidents.
