Private ranges in Denton County?

I'm a little frustrated lately with the lack of really good ranges in this area (Justin). I'm trying to find a place where I can actually do some practical drills (shooting on the move, rapid fire, close-range carbine work and such) but it seems impossible around here unless you happen to own some land.

When I first moved to Justin I heard a lot of gunfire north of me, so SOMEONE is out there shooting somewhere.

If you do have any info or know of a place to shoot, I'd really appreciate a PM. I'm not an idiot, and I'm safe and competent.

I can make it to Justin in about 20 minutes...

The closest thing I can tell you about is that Shoot Smart (currently under construction at I-35W and Golden Triangle), when it opens in early March, will have one private lane that they say will allow draw and shoot... otherwise, the only options I'm familiar with locally open to the public are "matches"...

The firing you're hearing is probably dove hunters. There's a few public hunting spots out there and a bunch of day leasers.

It's only about 2 miles as the crow flies from Quail Creek Range to the center of Justin.

Try Magnum Sports in Sanger. It's a bit of a drive up I35E, kinda rustic, and the outdoor rifle range where you can use informal targets and do movement drills if they don't interfere with other folks is open only intermittently, so be sure to call ahead. However, it allows you to practice some skills other ranges won't allow.

I don't think so, I was hearing what sounded like AR's in rapid fire a couple of ranches over to the north (I live a couple of miles north of town, so it definitely wasn't Quail Creek).

After graduating high school there and living there most of my life, don't put any money on the idea of Legal shooting being what you heard. There's a lot of trouble makers out there that do a lot of shooting and misbehaving where they shuldn't be and with a lot of disregard for people around them. And I'd definately find somewhere other than qual creek. I stoped going there a long time ago because the rangemasters were very rude, demanding, and overall on a power trip. I didn't feel comfortable around them which made me feel less safe about the area. So they never got my business again. From then on I did target shooting at Bass Pro for less money and nicer guys.
