These lengthy articles in a Minnesota newspaper describe a situation that is happening nationwide: NIMBY types move into what was a rural area and suddenly discover that they are near a shooting range.

It looks like Minnesota has about the same legal environment as Texas, where shooting ranges cannot be zoned or legally harassed out of existence as long as they conform with the law.

MN: Shooting ranges face "scrutiny" from neighbor complaints
Fear, anger, hatred, and greed. The devil's all-you-can-eat buffet.

Same-same with air bases and airports. Developers buy cheap land near a runway, (wonder why it is so cheap?
), builds houses, people buy them for cheaper (wonder why so cheap?
) and then get surprised and annoyed when jets fly over.
I think we had a discussion on this board awhile back about an instance where a city and the legislature and whatall were intervening (on the air force's side) in lawsuit against an air force base out in AZ.
Glock has a problem with this at their Georgia plant. They built 20 years ago in an area zoned light industrial. People built houses in a subdivision right next to them, altho it is still zoned light industrial. Now Glock wants to expand on their own land, but needs a couple variances on watershed and whatnot to do it the way they want. The subdivision now has its panties in wad (GUNS! CHILDREN) and oh by the way, they'd drop the opposition if Glock would build them a park and give them a huge chunk of money for their HOA...![banghead :banghead:](./images/smilies/banghead.gif)

The world is way too full of the "what's in it for me" attitude. It makes me nauseous sometimes. If I see an old lady with a walker struggling to load her meager groceries in her car, I'll offer to help. I won't ask for anything for it, nor would I expect anything for it.
What's in it for me? Knowing I did the right thing at the right time for the right reason.
