First visit to Bullet Trap in Plano. My Experiences
Just wanted to give a to Bullet Trap in Plano.
By far the most informative and courteous range officers I have met/dealt with. Other ranges I have been to are all about getting you in and out that's the only focus. The guys at Bullet Trap actually took time to answer my questions. I dealt with 4 people while there and all of them actually gave me the impression they enjoyed their job and enjoyed guns as much as I do. I am going to purchase a membership there next time in because of the customer service I got while there.
The range and store were spotless clean. That also goes a long way in my book. Good Job Bullet Trap, and if we have any range officers on here, keep it up guys!

I'm glad somebody had a positive experience there.

Re: First visit to Bullet Trap in Plano. My Experiences
I've never been there myself so I couldn't say one way or the other, but I've seen some negative reports on this board in the past. But I don't know if those reports had to do with the range, or the store's gun prices, or the salespeople, or what.shortysboy09 wrote:You didn't?MedicMan218 wrote:I'm glad somebody had a positive experience there.
Here is a forum search on the words "Bullet Trap."

Some folks might object to their rigorous range rules. Personally I like them because I really don't want to get killed by some idiot on the range.
Re: First visit to Bullet Trap in Plano. My Experiences
I just don't like thier attitudes.
I have had some friendly helpful people but for the most part they seem to have this holier-than-thou sence of self and tend to look at you like an idiot when you ask what they feel is a stupid question.
I'm sorry, I'm asking for a reason. I know I'm not the most knowledgeable person on guns but don't chastise me for asking a questions and making me feel stupid for asking in the first place and trying to learn.

I understand the feeling. That's typically what I got when I went to other ranges. Maybe I didn't get that feeling at Bullet Trap because how obvious the other ranges I went to made their sarcasm and rudeness show.MedicMan218 wrote:I just don't like thier attitudes.

I felt I asked a dumb question and the gentleman helping me walked me through all the steps very courteously. Other ranges would have told me that reading the manual is something I should think of trying.

Perhaps you should have said something to management. I don't believe they permit the help to shoot critics. As to stupid questions, I am in there often enough that I hear some really idiotic questions that make you roll your eyes. Maybe they are oversensitized to stupidity. Like a frail nearly blind 90 year old guy wanting to buy a 357 magnum for concealed carry self defense. There are days I would pay them just to let me hang around and watch, especially on the range.MedicMan218 wrote:I just don't like thier attitudes.

Bullet trap works for me. They have been friendly and professional with pretty much all interaction there. Over the last few months I bought a gun, holster, shot 8-10 times and done the CHL class.

Right on about their CHL class. It fully prepared us for the test and was informative and interesting over and above the pure legal material. And in general their range safety officers are great guys who appear to love their work. And try hard to keep anyone from getting kilt. My only complaint is that they have all these guns I want but can't afford, right out there where I have to see them.
Re: First visit to Bullet Trap in Plano. My Experiences
I don't understand why they needed my driver license information and phone number just to buy some gun lube at the Bullet Trap? I can understand the need for that information if I'm buying a gun, but for lube? Then, when I showed it to them, I requested that he not put my phone number in a database. He nods uh, huh, and continues to type on his keyboard. So, if I get telemarketers calling me, I'll know who to blame. BTW, I was using cash, not a credit card.
I've found the older employees at the DFW Gun Range to be more helpful and more respectful of my privacy. However, any gun shop or range always uses snooty, rude pimply faced kids. It's like some unwritten rule or something.
Well, except for the Plano Pawn Shop, their young 'un employees are pretty helpful and courteous.

Re: First visit to Bullet Trap in Plano. My Experiences
drjoker,
I've encountered variations on the theme of "you have to give us personal information before we sell anything to you".
My response: No - You don't justifiably need that and if you insist, no problem and no sale. I'll leave never to return.
Enough of this response for the sale of (if you will) sundry items and that policy will go away.
Personally, even being asked for my zip code annoys me.
I tell em to make one up...
Am I being unreasonable?
No.
What I am is one not willing to be manipulated.
Sell me the item/items without attempting to make me jump thru hoops and they'll be no problem.
At one time Radioshack would demand your address and phone number for the purchase of any goods and if you refused they'd go into a song and dance about how they had to have this info. Yeah, sure...
Just say no and be willing to walk if they insist.

Maybe things have changed over time. I have been going there for a few months now and have had nothing but good experiences with the range and staff.

My responses vary when asked for personal info that is not needed (except for the store's marketing folks):
-I don't have a phone (which is true as I have no home phone...just a cell LOL)
-817-555-1212 (info number)
-it's none of your business, etc....
-76099 (this is a PO box zip code for Grapevine)

Re: First visit to Bullet Trap in Plano. My Experiences
My only issue is they try to con you into buying the most expensive stuff. I went in looking for a holster and they kept ramming the most expensive Galco holsters down my throat even when I tried to steer them back to what I wanted. So, I suddenly decided I did not need a holster than night and just ordered one online. It could be one sales person (I have not dealt with all of them), but one is enough to turn me off.
I don't mind the range there and that is where I go if the weather dictates it.
I'd rather shoot outside, so I just go to the Garland range unless it is just too cold.
