I recently attended and participated in an IDPA match in Coperas Cove at private Leppo range and it was a great experience. It was run very professionally and safely with friendly and experienced range masters. I have found many places to shoot in Dallas, SA, Houston, but why isn't there one close to Austin. I think there should be a large bunch of pistol shooters in good old liberal Austin.
Does anyone know where you can do this type of shooting in the Austin area instead of having to drive to Coperas Cove, LaGrange, or San Antonio, or Dallas? I personally know about 10-15 shooters that would like to shoot, but don't want to drive 2 hrs. to do so.
One place that may be a little closer to Austin is at Cedar Ridge Range, and the IDPA/IPSC matches are operated by Texas Tactical. This range is about half-way between San Antonio and Houston. Their website is http://www.texastactical.net
I haven't attended there yet, but plan on it as soon as my schedule permits and the rain cancellations subside.
According to their schedule, there is an IDPA match next Sunday, the 26th. Sometimes they have a shotgun side match after the pistol shoot.
If you are just looking for ranges to shoot, there are a few of those around, too.
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

Actually, the range is between San Antonio and New Braunsfels. I'll have to see about attending some of the events and see what it's like!

I don't know what I was thinking when I said 'Houston' I meant to say 'Austin', but New Braunfels is probably a better reference.

Yeah I know about Texas Tactical and plan on checking out that group in Sep. I seems like there should be one closer to Austin. Actually I would like to have one in my back yard, but the neighbors would probably complain ya know. I wonder how many acre's you would need to set one up, counting parking?

Austin Rifle Club is moving forward on a proposal to include action shooting at their facility. They are making plans of adding bays exclusively for this purpose. It is not expected to interfere with any of the other activities. They are currently examining the support from their membership, which looks promising. As with any of their matches and competitions, there is no requirement to be a member, so it will be open to the public. There is some information on their website here . They are located just outside Manor, 20-30 minutes from Austin.
They also have a new forum that you can access from their site.
