Anyone N. Au/Pflu/RR Area Want to Go Shoot?

#1

Post by BigDan »

I was wondering if anyone in the North Austin, Pflugerville, Leander, Cedar Park, or Round Rock area want to go shooting some time next week. I was thinking of hitting up Red's Range in Pflugerville for a little target shooting.

If anyone's interested, let me know. I need to get my butt back to the range and I hate not shooting w/ anyone.

Does Red's still do Pin Shoots? I like bowling pins but prefer to go with friends for that.

I'm going to be in Austin July 14-18 while my wife attends a conference. I'll have lots of time to kill during the day.

I'm thinking about making this a weekly or an every-other-week thing. I'm leaning more towards the latter, as the rising costs of ammo may be a bit prohibitive.

This could be a fun way of meeting others from here and see what gear everyone is using (and try it out). =-]

Mondays are Ladies' night at Red's, so there will most likely be too many people that night. Tuesdays are T-Ball practice nights until 8, so that rules that one out for me. How is everyone's Wednesday? They close at 9pm, so 7pm or 7:30pm meet-up time might be best.

BTW, you can't miss me. I'll be the biggest/tallest person you've ever seen. (Trust me...)

I'm pretty sure I'll be there this Wednesday. I'll try to be there by 7:30 or so, pay for an hour and then check out the retail stuff they have.

Don't forget that if you show up, I'm the TALL one. Be sure and say hello. =-D

Red's is fine, I did a lot of my shootiing there to start out, but started going to outdoor ranges and find them less restrictive, cheaper and a lot more fun. If you are going to go once in a while, Red's is fine but there is also Eagle Peak in Leander. Membership is $10 lifetime, then $10 each visit afterwards. Unlimited time, unlimited guns, but no FMJ allowed for rifles .
If you plan to shoot a lot and would rather put your money in ammo than per-visit costs, you might look into Austin Rifle Club. Annual membership is $100 and as long as you follow safety rules, the options are nearly unlimited. Show up anytime, dawn to dusk and you pay nothing more. Hollowpoint, FMJ,big guns, little guns, whatever, it's all OK. They are also trying to get some action shooting (IDPA,IPSC,Cowboy...) going... someday.

They also allow 2 free visits as a guest of a member if you just want to try it out. I'm a member ;-)

If you like to shoot, you owe it to yourself to check it out http://www.austinrifleclub.org
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

awright, BigDan. I'll see you at Red's. I'm easy to spot as well. brown skin, long black hair in a braid. I'll be there at 7:30.

though.. perhaps for future practice sessions, I can get you to join NcongruNT and myself out at Lone Star Gun range. it's near 183 South, about 5 miles this side of Lockhart. that's a hike, but with some planning perhaps a carpool can be arranged. .. some shooting topped off with some barbeque at Black's in Lockhart is a fine way to spend an afternoon. :thumbs2:

I agree with 06nop. Red's will do in a pinch, but outdoors is alot more fun.

MIddle of the week thing for Lone Star? I could take off early from work one day.

I'll see anyone interested in going at Red's tonight. Leaving here in a few. =-]

It was fun, thanks for coming out, man. We need to see about going out to Lone Star on a weekday in a couple of weeks. =-]

I'll start a new thread for that one later. May get more of a response. Who knows?

Weekdays in general aren't really good for me. Weekends, sure. The only possible exception I can think of is on a Friday. Unless I'm on a specific project that requires the entire day, my boss is relatively liberal with letting me out early on Fridays.

If anyone wants to meet this weekend, I'll probably be heading to the range on Saturday.

Let's bump this thread a bit. I'll be in Austin next week, if anyone wants to get together. My wife has a workshop at UT, so I'll have to time things around her schedule a bit.
