Pistol Range in Ft. Worth

I have shot at The Shooter's Club on NE 28th St. in Ft. Worth a couple of times. It's a small and not fancy place, but the employees are friendly and helpful. They make you feel welcome.

I recently bought a 1911 pattern 45 pistol and wanted to clean it before I shot it. Today I went to the Shooter's Club and asked the guy behind the counter if he would show me how. He did it on the spot, told me it shoots as well as his high end pistol and charged me nothing. I bought some ammo and will go back.

I love that place. I joined back in August before I bought my Beretta Px4. My only complaint: They don't sell any Berettas... but they told me why and I understand. I go there about once a week. I found them to be the cheapest and friendlist range I've been to so far. And it doesn't hurt that they're only about eight miles from me. I just took my CHL Class two weeks ago there too.

Been there a few times. They are open almost all year except for a few days. The only thing I don't like is their range is rather short. Maybe 15 yards. I don't know what they use as a backstop but you often get little chips of concrete flying back at you. Keep your eye protection on and wear jeans.

I don't think that's concrete but I could be wrong. Whenever I got hit with something it always looked like shards from jacketed bullets. Even so, it didn't happen often.

So just under 12 yards. I have small scars on my neck and shin from shrapnel at that range.

Staff arent incredibly knowledgeable, but there "range" takes the cake

I went in there about a month and a half ago to have a goodbye shoot with my kimber pro carry pre series II .... got through 200 rounds and had a few bits of shrapnel come back and hit me ... no blood so no biggie right?


I switch from 230 grain FMJ to 165 grain corbon powerball and go through a mag ... next mag halfway through I get this piece of shrapnel flying back at me the size of my pinkie nail. It embeds its self into my face, not only was it hot but it stuck into my cheek .... I had to pull it out, finnish my mag and leave. I said something to a guy at the counter and they didnt seem to care in the slightest bit. I now have a scar on my cheek from being "shot" .... Ill go to winchester gallery from now on thanks.

FWIW, sounds like the folks are nice and all, but the point of going to the range is to avoid being shot yourself. I have no particular desire to get fragged by my own rounds, and this place sounds unsafe. I think I'll avoid it.

When I fired, I saw it fly to the right, bounce off the separator and hit me in the right forearm... and it was hot. Another reason I knew it didn't bounce back off the backstop is the way I was shooting, it just couldn't have come from that way. I guess that's what happens when you use cheap Winchester Value pack ammo from Wally World.

Question: How can you have scars from shrapnel on your shin when the lower part of the stalls are covered by wood from the waist to foot? There's just a small space, about 2", on the bottom so peole can sweep their empty shells under it. If the rounds are bouncing back, the wood would protect your lower half.

what i got hit by was the jacket of my own round .... quality of the ammo dosent matter i dont think .... I was shooting corbon powerball ... thats not cheap stuff

The only situation I have been able to visualize this happening is a revolver shaving lead on the forcing cone.

If that were the case, you have a problem with the revolver.

If that were the case, you have a problem with the revolver.

I was shooting a Beretta Px4 Storm 9mm. It's only happened two or three times where I got hit but this was the first time it drew blood. The shard was stuck in my arm. I can't imagine it being the range's fault. If it were, there'd be a lot more incidents.

That's what I was hit with too and you're probably right, quality doesn't matter. I was just guessing. My point was though, I can't imagine it being the range's fault if I get hit with my own shard from the jacket. The range's backstop (The Shooter's Club in this case) is angled upward so anything that hits it should bouce up, not back. I'm not sure what the backstop is made of but it doesn't look like steel, or any kind of metal for that matter. If it was, I'm sure it would make a heck of a noise. I'm not trying to defend The Shooter's Club, just trying to figure this out logically.

It is the range's fault ... when i said something about getting hit in the cheek by a piece of jacket they acted like it was common ... it had happened to me there before but it never drew blood like it did last time. I have never had this happen at any other range. only at the shooting gallery. if you look at other threads about the range you will see other people talking about the backstop kicking back bits of bullets.
