Send me his contact info and the first range session is on me. What type of firearms?
Suggestions:
Closest and pretty good is: http://www.eaglepeakshootingrange.com/epsr.htm
North on 183 past Liberty Hill is Stans (there were some changes here a while back and I don't know the situation currently)
Indoor is Red's in Pflugerville but they are a bit expensive and no shot although it is nice to reset your target without moving.
Then getting more into Austin the selection opens up even more.

Eagle Peak is probably the best bet, they charge $10 membership fee (required) then I think it is $10 per visit.
Red's Indoor range charges by the hour, $13.50
As far as more ranges in Austin, don't know of any besides another Red's in far south Austin. There is the Austin Rifle Club, http://www.austinrifleclub.org but they are actually just eaast of Manor,Tx.

I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

At Lone Star Gun Range we are about 18 miles south of the Airport just north of Lockhart. If you need a place you can draw from your holster and not be bothered by shooting too fast then we are one of the few left. You can find out more at http://www.ctxpta.com

If only that wasn't about 60 miles south of Leander... Bit far for an afternoon outing. Maybe an IDPA match though...
