Looks like the campus carry movement will be just fine without Sen. Wentworth. Maybe it'll even pass this time?

I included this bill in a blog post on pre-filed bills I'm following. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments, if you like!

Re: Favorite Chain Restaurants
I don't know if this counts as a restaurant, but Starbucks allows both open and concealed carry (in states where it's legal, obviously).

Re: What campus carry is and what it's not
... hey, 6 colleges tried it successfully and no massacres or CHLs shooting teachers/fellow students over differences of opinion in class "so far" lets see if we can join the experiment. Even if we approach it this way, it's way more than 6. The number SCC used last session was 71, and it...

Plus, there are differing opinions on those other issues. For example, I support campus carry but am uncomfortable with unlicensed concealed carry. If you roll in multiple issues, you risk weakening your support base.

Re: What campus carry is and what it's not
From the article, IS NOT: Involved with holding positions on open carry, unlicensed concealed carry, or concealed carry on the campuses on primary or secondary schools. May I ask, why not? Which part of that paragraph do you mean? Generally speaking: from SCC's perspective, the organization was sta...

What campus carry is and what it's not
In case y'all haven't already read it, Madison from Texas SCC did a great blog post the other day on the campus carry debate. Definitely something to share with antis who try to skew the argument.

That's a tad impractical, since all but two voted for Straus for speaker after his opponents dropped out...tacticool wrote:I agree with realists who say conservatives should vote against anyone who supported Straus in 2011 and helped him kill campus carry and other conservative issues.

Re: Joe Straus and concealed carry on campus
It's up to the state reps to decide - the most we can do is call/write to/visit them and encourage them to vote for Hughes.RHenriksen wrote:What options do we have for influencing the choice of speaker?

Re: Joe Straus and concealed carry on campus
Bryan Hughes is apparently gong to try to oust Straus as Speaker. Sounds like a true conservative. Need to find out more about him, though. Good news on that front: Hughes coauthored both Driver's and Simpson's campus carry bills last session. He said in a recent Tribune article he would ensure com...

Re: Tx Senator Mario Gallegos in 'grave' condition
So if he dies before the election, I wonder what happens on the ballot. Do people elect a dead senator that then gets replaced by the Democratic Party apparatus? I think there would be a special election to find someone to fill his seat until session begins in January, then (if I'm reading the stat...

Instructor recs
Howdy all,
Any recommendations on instructors in the Austin area? I know a few from campus carry lobbying but wanted to get some second opinions.
